When you run for a big carrier as a Driver you get paid by the mile and could care less about fuel. Those trucks are governed so you run with your foot pushed to the floor from morning to night. As for log books.....
Now there's a former USX driver for sure telling why they have such a high turnover rate . Unfortunately many newbies start with companies like USX , think all carriers are the same and leave the industry and another newbie takes their place . Why is it carriers here have a turnover rate of over 100% and in Canada it is only 30% ? But for the record not all big trucks are governed even though companies like USX and Schneider would like them to be . As for log books , responsible carriers monitor every log using the same software FMCSA uses and send monthly reports to drivers asking for an explanation of violations . Any carrier not doing this knows their drivers are violating HOS and the carrier condones it like USX did but in the end they get caught sooner or later during an audit .
