Help on Double Team pay!

I have a friend that is retired and has a B class CDL. I had to turn down a load yesterday that I could not get there legally. So I ask him this morning if he would be willing to run part-time with me on these kind of loads. He ask, what would it pay? Does anyone have a situation where you own the truck and pay a team driver? If so how much per mile or percentage do you pay? Thanks for the help in advance.

How does he get to where you and the load are? How does he get home after delivery? What would you want to be paid if the roles were reversed? Presuming you know your cpm you could figure out the net pay for the run and then split it based on % of miles driven.

I run for a local carrier. All loads are not double team loads. I only know of two this year. I am home every weekend so getting home is not the issue. Where these loads come out of are within a 1 hour drive of his home. I run on a percentage basis. I do however know my cpm upon getting the quote using practical miles on my pc. Good thought though to reverse the roles.

Jim: I am not leased to a Fedex or Panther or any big company. Tried that did not like it. I know I will be home weekly. Maybe not on the weekend but weekly, so logistics mean very little on getting him home. Thanks

If that wuz the first thing he asked, you may want to consider leaving him at home. I pay, 60% of gross, minus fuel cost, drivers split remainder. 5K load, drivers get 60% or 3K, minus fuel (say $875), drivers split $2125. Then you get to split the next load too, IF he isn't barn sour an wanna go home right away. Way more to speak about than pay.

Col. I am not hiring a team. I am hiring a driver to help me. And yes I am barn sour too, my home and my family mean much more to me than the almighty $. I gross the truck between 2 and 3k a week. That is all I require. He will not run with me every week only when I need him for a special load that requires a double team. This man is married to my half sister (guess he is my half brother in law), so I know quite a bit about him and have no qualms with his integrity. He is retired and would like to make some extra money.

I understand, and agree. But then why go thru this unknown for a couple times a year, if your happy now. Life is good enjoy it, till your fuel hits four bucks, an yer still doing a couple k a week.

WHEN, and not if is the key word here. Fuel will be there shortly. I will do what it takes to make it col.. The company I am with ask if it was a possibility for me to get someone part time to cover some of these loads they are missing. I told them I would be willing to do it on a part time basis. I have no want nor need to double and be gone all the time. Not my cup of tea. Its kinda like going to keys you wanted to and you done it.

I appreciate the advice col.. I will try it for a bit, if it don't fit for me, then back to the way I do it now. Be careful down there and don't get sun burned.

Man Night have fun with that, Workers comp, unemployment, SS, withholding, and a whole bunch of other things that will require many hours a month.
You may want to check with an accountant on all of the requirements before you take that step.

I would say 20 cents on the expedite out and 20% on the return.
get some sort of mobile internet so you and your co-driver can look for a return on your way out.

More money you pay your driver, less you have to pay your uncle sam,and if driver is happy, the more money you make

Well i think 20% on the total pay of the load,And he does not have to pay anything like fuel, tolls or anything else I think that is very fair for you and the co-driver because without a co-driver you wouldn't of got the load...
