Hello ladies and gents, I wanted to tell everyone thx for the great information that has seen posted here about trucking. Because of that I have decided to go into the business of logistics. I will be purchasing my freightliner in the near future and hiring two drivers so I can start working for FedEx Custom critical program as owner/operator. Do you have guys/gals have any literature, opinions, and facts about custom critical besides what I got from FedEx. I would really appreciate it.:):) I am hearing people are making a killing out there and if so what is the average. I am not try to retire soon but would like at least pay the truck note and expenses.

I hope you have a bank full of money.it sounds to me your putting the cart before the horse. You didn't mention what size truck your putting on. If your going to rely on the Fedex logistics side of Custom Critical, you may not have enough money to pay for your fuel, let alone pay the drivers that are in your truck.
It doesn't matter what expedite company your with,If your not in the right place at the right time, you will be very disappointed.Good luck, you should read back in the forums for a couple of years.

I can see everyone here has difference of opinion. On which Company to contract for ect.

2005 I got my CDL and I was told at the School I attended since I obtained my own Loan to pay for the school. The best Thing I could do was put a add in the classifieds driver available. I was told I would make better money than working for training Companies like USA, Swift, Werner, TMC.

That being the case I did. Soon as I did I got a call from an OOP. needing a driver. In the mean time I Called the school to find out what this Expedite Trucking was and asked about the Company in particular. The President and founder of the school told me that the said Expedite Company I am going to drive for is The Best of the Best. Still here enough said.
Greatest On Earth. Right now U Betcha!!

I have decided to go into the business of logistics.

I am hearing people are making a killing out there and if so what is the average.

Maybe I used the wrong words by saying "killing".

My friend is an owner/operator with one truck for the FedEx custom critical program and claiming he is net income is 2K/week.

I do not trust him.

So I will roll out my sleeves and educate myself about expediting and being an owner/operator.

By the way, I am not yet convinced that is why I am here. If all is good, I will probably start around Sept 2010.

After reading your posts I have many questions. The most pertinent being: If you were called in for a random drug test tomorrow, next month or on/or around September 2010 would you pass?

I would pass any drug tests with flying colors now and beyond Sept 2010. Also another clarification, I am using the word "logistics" for a company or LLC that I will be starting up to minimize my personal liabilities.

Thanks for the headsup nightcreacher. Like I stated before my friend just got into FedEx custom critical program as owner/operator and doing ok for the past several months averaging net income of 6k/month. I have seen his settelments. If you were to rank all of the companies out there to become owner/operator, what would be the order in terms of reliablity, support, and revenue.

Thanks Linda for the info. Like I said if I can supplement my income and save for a rainy day or better yet when we have another economic meltdown due to some very very greedy people, I will be happy. Netting 100K/year during the past three years shows the hard work and planning on your part. I wish you the best in the coming years.

x06col, I am stunned:p

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

I would be very pleased to have you visit one of my sessions:D

Now, if I can only get the banks to pony up with a good rate,

we would be owner/ 1 driver/ 2 driver. All in due time.

A "good rate"? You'd tink, after that many decent years in a row, a fella'd be able to cash one out. What gives here??

"What gives here??"

My thought exactly.

But, you know the drill.

I am a first time buyer. In an industry with a high mortality rate.
I can buy another house, boat, car, Picasso, or anyother number of "other" businesses up for sale with no problem.

I have qualified with a number of "finance" companies.
But, with only 2 financials ( they wont accept the 10 month 1st year) I am hearing I need more years experience.
Now my bank is on my side.
I would rather do business with them.
They need to write this thru SBA.
All that being said, my Bank is trying very hard to get things
done.
They love the gross, my credit score is 750, I have another Business that I bank thru them.
What I want is a single digit % loan.
Thats the scoope.
I'm in no hurry. It has to meet my expectations or I dont need it.:)
Thanx for askin.

Single digit, i'd hope so, for a damd ol noisey truk. What in the world do the think their moneys worth?? I only costs em less than a percent. I'd jes go buy one, an let'um count the money they didn't get. But while i'm typing, I really like their stocks....they pay great dividends.

Thank you both for the response. Nothing is free in this world and I have to earn my stripes. So I will roll out my sleeves and educate myself about expediting and being an owner/operator. Any website or information in plain english not truck lingo to start my research is very much appreciated. I looked into this site, but all the info is scattered and hard to put it all together. By the way, I am not yet convinced that is why I am here. If all is good, I will probably start around Sept 2010.

maybe you want to get a license and learn about expedite from the inside out. i cannot imagine the games that would be played with you by experienced drivers as to why things have "happened" the wrong way. you can't learn this from talking to your friend. you have to experience it.
