Guys, if you'll allow me to intrude in your forum for a few..

A load 1 sprinter passed me today and I would like to get in touch with the owner. Didnt get the truck number. Nothing bad LOL, just a question about his generator setup. I hope he/she is on here. The van is a 2007+ Sprinter with a generator box on the rear left door, and on the generator box there is a hat and a pair of beach shoes. If you read this, please pm me.

Thanks.

Good luck I've just spent the last 4 days chasing what turned out to be a wiring problem

Frustrating. Hopefully it turns out to be something minor.

Hope so, had similar sounds before.. but previous incidences, was alternator, 2 tensioners, etc.. removed belt, all good.. no flex, harmonic balancer is good (replaced a couple months ago..) leaning towards an engine or transmission mount so far. Not a huge noise, which is what's annoying.... just enough I don't trust it.. and mechanic is going.. Hmmmm.

Have them check the flex-pipe by the turbo

This is most likely the alternator "clutch". No kidding. Cheap for you to replace before the extra vibration in the belt blows the tensioner, and kills the belt, maybe even cutting hoses! Stops you cold!

There is a simple way to know for sure. Look at the serpentine belt while the engine is idling. If it is vibrating like a string on a guitar, it is the clutch on the alternator. If it is running smoothly, it is something else. If it is the alternator clutch, the vibrating will go away above 1,000 rpms because there is more stress on the bell pulling it tight. Watch the serpentine belt as you slowly increase the RPM's above 1000... if it stops vibrating like a guitar string as you increase to 1000, it is definitely the alternator clutch!

DON'T replace the whole alternator... just the clutch. It can be bought separately... don't accept any bs that it can't. There is a very small chance that the vibration is coming from bad alternator bearings. With the serpentine belt off of the alternator, if you feel any play in the alternator bearings, you need to replace the alternator completely.

MUCH more expensive if you just let it go until it ruins all this stuff! Never ignor a new noise in a $printer!!! It cost me a lot of money to learn this myself, but you get the benefit of my bad experience for free!

Well hopefully today will bring better opportunities! It's been a rough few months with this particular week being one of the worst. Certainly hope things start to improve.

Count is looking solid. Been a weird few weeks. Counts and revenue pretty good but always a half dozen big sitters.

Oddly enough our revenue is down from this time last year when we were running 5 trucks then and 7 now. More expenses and less revenue is not good. This seems to be more than the last few weeks. At least in our experience.

I just gave $1,500.00 to another Load-1 driver. Had to say no to a load picking up in El Paso to Nashville, Il. Only due to the fact that I am over a 1,000 miles away from pickup.

Note: QC still down and way out...

Dreamer did they find the noise?

No...and I'm getting a little frustrated. The mechanic is a friend, and did me a favor getting it in the shop, but he's a bit buffalo'd, to use his word.. that shop time adds up, even tho he gives me a break... He had to take a break from it to work on some previous appts. Not in front of engine, belts, pullies, alternator, etc all fine..now not there all the time. Back at it tomorrow.

I HATE mystery noises.

I had planned part of this week and next off for packing/moving...so it's good timing I guess, but hoped to slip a couple runs in between the big days.
