Health Insurance

If you do not have any I suggest you to please read this.

Right now someone somewhere has found out today that they have some very expsensive medical bills that are either facing them or are gona. If you have any net worth or ever dream of having any if your going without health insurance chances are you will broke the rest of your life.

It is a LIE people to think that the hospital (s) are just gona make some payment arrangment with you and your free to break it anytime or be late. Yes for a period of time they will let you get back on your feet and than begin repaying, but they have Lawyers, and collections etc.. They can even put a lien on everything you own including your house. Now I did not say kick you out but your never gona see a dime until you pay off that hospital bill if they choose so.

Hospitals are there for all of us to utilize 24/7 but for that luxury they must be profitable and that means getting paid for services rendered. I keep reading how people here just think running around with no health coverage is just OK and can be dealt with after the fact. WRONG people you will be broke forever and God forbid you cannot ever return to work THAN WHAT? You will be foreclosed on by the bank first for not making the house payment, throwing you into the street, than you will find yourself living in a car for a while till that is repoed if not by the Bank than by the Hospital. There are no Grants, special get ya out of jail cards from the IRS or any Govt. plans I know of, and if there were they should be outlawed cause health insurance is available to anyone who is healthy its not until after that fact that you no longer qualify. Since we are all selfemployed and this is a selfemployed site you must look after yourself.

Now one has said I cannot afford it . Than a personal suggestion, your right you cannot afford to be doing this either. As a society we all pay for those who do not. Do we not?

Good points. Makes me sort of happier I'm canadian as we have the gov't coverage. It's not the best necessarily but cost is reasonable. This does not mean I don't need better coverage for my US trips so extra is purchased for those thru companies like Blue Cross etc.

Up here and I'm sure down there it is better to belong to an association which has deals for insc like a chamber of commerce or even ooida as they usually have some reasonable offers for income protection, hospitalization and other coverages required. The accident that puts you into the hospital may not be your fault but coverage is still required.

Operating without some insc coverage for health or income protection is really leaving yourself open to financial ruin. I agree get some and soon if you don't have it.

I had out-of country coverage with CAA...short term that is...it'll cover you while in and out of the US and it's included in the membership....also they cover commercial vans if you use it for personal as well...got a couple free tow jobs.

I have a HSA account with BC-BS. It is not overly expensive and covers most everything after the deducable. I bank the difference between the preimums of a traditional policy and the HSA. 100% of the preimiums AND the savings come out of my taxable income and lower my tax burden. The interest on the HSA is not taxed and the money is NEVER taxed when used for medical expenses. I like having control over my medical coverage and thank GOD every day that we DO NOT have a Government program. layoutshooter

If one has to deal with this out of pocket for years, you learn how to deal with the doctors and hospitals with the money end of things.

The real problem is with having insurance because it is like taxes, the money is never seen so it never registers with the person what is really happening.

I pay for all my scripts out of pocket even though I have insurance, it is cheaper believe it or not. I know people who will not do that, they will pay the co-pay and get the more expensive script. When you look at it on paper, I have a 4 to 8 dollar savings on my scripts over what these people have because they are insisting on using the insurance.

I am for outlawing insurance, watch the price for medical drop then. Get the government out of it too, they account for as much as 30% of the cost of medical treatment, at least according to some groups who look into these things. Layoutshooter

I am at home now , recovering from a major Sargon .
it took 3 ER visits , one emergency ambulance travel,
a 3 day Hospital stay , and an expensive visit to the OR .
cant think of paying it out of pocket , it would have take me out of business .
all i had to pay is my Co. pay for drugs , and the Deductible .
the deductible is a part of the annually business plan ,(i plan of spending it every year )
as i mention before on this forum , the annually pay for BC,BS is a business expenses , on my book : if you don't pay it you will not have a profitable way of showing up for work the next day .
as it is i will probably be back on the road on Mon. ,
not a single interference at the business plan .
it is very easy to focus on recovering when i know i will not have to pay for any of this.

Moose, I hope your back doing what it is you like.

Moose is the perfect example of what I wrote about. The medical is paid first, I hate it (paying it) but the alternative is loosing everything I have worked for or better yet destroying ones future and hopes?

Hope is what keeps us going does it not? Without it why get out of bed? Goes hand in hand if one owes so much $ that one cannot pay for ones basic needs and save a little than why be selfemployed? Insurance is an unfortunate necessity if like I began on this thread you have any hope of ever being rich (self defined of course) but hope to.

I have insurance now, thankyou medicare and my medigap, but this is the first health insurance I've ahd since i dropped out of the teamsters.I have found that many hospitals will take you with no insurance, and you can make arrangements to payout your Doctor bills as well.Depending on the amount, this might take awhile.
