Check groups out like the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau etc. Sometimes they offer plans to their members.
Check out the plan before you join to see if it will work for you.

I used to have my BCBS through Farm Bureau and assumed I was getting a good deal because of group rates. Be advised that they assess each group individually. Farm Bureau loosened the requirements for membership and a lot of people signed up for insurance through them. A lot of SICK people. As the claims went up, so did the premiums. I went in to talk to them and the lady at Farm Bureau sent me to the BCBS office and I got a better deal.

You should settle for nothing less than a senior agent that specializes in health insurance and serves self-employed individuals. To find one, or a couple to choose from, ask your car and home insurance agents to recommend one. If they say "I can serve you" politely decline. Plan B to get a senior referral would be to call auto insurance agents out of the phone book and ask for a senior health agent.

This must be a Philerism?

I agree with your post.

It is always to ones advantage to seek the EXPERIENCED or senior agent.

@Broom:
I was looking into BCBS a little closer. Seems to work out in my area.
But I did not understand that prescription saver card program.
I much rather like drug coverage. Seems there is a seperate deductable plan for drugs also. Any idea how that works? I pay any meds I need full price untill I meet the deductable and then it is $10/$20/$30 co-pay??? Does your plan include something like this?

Not only was I slow getting the info, I got a hefty increase on my current plan in the mail, that sucks.

Those of you who are with BCBS, is there a benefit for accident and emergency room/hospital on the road?

After sifting trough this fiasko, I was told today by an agent, that most insurance plans will not pay for anything that happens on the road, only to and from work. I should have workmens comp in place, that would be another $165 on top of that premium anyway.

What do you all think?

I personally had a work related injury 4 years ago $11K in medical bills they paid all except for the deducatables. You are covered 100% with BCBS minus your deducatable work or personal its health insurance.

If you want a W/C insurance policy on top of that for cash flow purpose than you need to seek a policy with an independent agent as BCBS does not as far as I know carry those plans.

I choose not to get WC but went to my Allstate Agent who set me up with a plan that pays up to $2,050 a month after I have been ill for seven consecutive days. NO pre-test or anything just varification of an income greater than that amount. I believe its about $85. a month. Personal or Work injuries or any illness that that keeps me unable to work for 7 days. Very simple policy and a good protection for my family. There are much more expensive plans out there, this is just clean, simple, and affordable for a small business owner.

Miko, being on the road as we are is one of the best reasons to have Blue Cross, it is recognized everywhere you go. It does'nt matter whether you're working or hurt playing football as far as treatment for your injury. It's even recognized in remote foreign countries(Canada). If this responce does'nt make sense, I may have misunderstood your post.

All, I am glad that I am getting responses to all my stupid questions regarding Health Insurance as I am trough the wind with this right now.
Today I have an appointment at BCBS to check things out.
I will keep you posted.

An Agent told me that a plan with Humana would not cover anything that would happen in a range further away from home than 300 miles.
And that was also the case with my former plan with Touchpoint.
That was the reason I switched. I will see what the outcome is of all this.
