I think some Cvers goes thru this......

they get that long one to Laredo and all the way down they are counting the cash and what bills to pay and have this high hope of a quick turn around in the same pay week...like a 3G payday...dispatch is the best thing since French toast....after unloading and the days pass and ya wait and wait and it sinks in, this is the only load of the week...the mood changes to dispatch sits on their butt too much..LOL and now the idea, the panic...what happens if I sit here all this week!!! ARGgggg

It can be intimidating. But as team, we have set very little. And our dispatch has never offered US less than our contracted rate. And we have averaged a little over on most trips!
But It's always a gamble!!!:D

Like has been pointed out, Laredo can be a gamble and intimiating to a newbie...but if you if you have been around long enough, you know what goes on where...

goin to laredo is normally going to pay very well...if you handle your cash flow, sitting and waiting anywhere is more tolerable and laredo is no different...you don't spend a week there either,,3-4 days at the every most for most carriers, my carrier payes us for 2 day to sit and wait, then payes us to move, and yeap, San Antonio is good and El paso can be good also..but again as was pointed out, your carrier is definitly a large factor in getting you loaded and moving..

Ill go to laredo anytime i am call, pay will be good, and chances are beter then not, the run out will be good also..But then again, its all a vacation for me...:D

Took my first load to Laredo about 10 days ago. I work for several different carriers so when I called around to get advice on what to do after I delivered, I got different answers from every carrier.

Wait it out in Laredo
Dead head to Dallas
Dead head to Kansas City
Dead head to Houston
Dead head to San Antonio

One of those was the right answer and I got a load 2 days after I dropped. If it was a different day a different week or time of year the "right" answer would probably change. So many variables. I am not going to look for loads specifically going there but the "No Laredo" chant I have heard and bought into is no longer a factor for me personally. (as long as the rate is right going in) Simply part of the learning curve for me and everyone has to see if Laredo fits into their individual business plan.

Rock On!

Laredo isnt as bad as it used to be, just make sure you have money to eat and such for a couple days if needed, I wont sit anywhere longer then that. If it costs me 150 bucks to get out then so be it. Its better to bite the bullet and move then sit past two days unless a Great load is waiting, Ive run from Laredo to Michigan both times Ive been there and thats a pretty good paycheck.

Ten years ago when I first went to Laredo it was a crappy dirty bad roads, bad food, bad places to load into and out of, Now they have two very nice clean truckstops to stay at, eat at or overnite at with all facilities. TWO THINGS Never go to Laredo with anything Illegal in your vehicle as the dogs there will sniff it out, and keep an eye on your vehicle if its sitting outside secure parking, do your own roadside check and be sure no one has added anything to your truck because it happens...

Laredo has a Boys town which you prolly want to stay out of, stay on the USA side and if you have to go down south let someone know when your due back, where your going, and be sure your LEGAL...ITS JUST ANOTHER port CITY AND IT HAS ALL THE CRAZINESS, including Drug Smuggling, Police and Border patrol everywhere and on your way out of town you will be inspected and detected at the Highway Inspection station that ALL traffic passes thru. Mind your Ps and Qs and youll have no issues.

Well, less than 24hrs in Loredo and we were out of there. On our way TN now. Another 1100 miles! Loven our dispatcher!!
Loredo was packed as usual. Some had been there for 3+ days. But It's all good. We're rollin one road at a time! One day at a time!

Re: Heaeing to Laredo

I have friends in Rockford. What are the benefits to waiting there vs. Chicago?

More options? A lot picks up in Elgin and western burbs....also Ive been sent up to Madison or Western Ill on the Mississippi or south to the Peru, Joliet area....If you are DHing in from Mn there is no real need to come further in....you'll get the same loads...

Love Tennessee! Lived there once. Would love to go back to the mountains - maybe a cabin by a creek. Okay, maybe when it warms up some! ;)

Maybe-if you could go with the right person. Better hope that hot tub is inside, else you'll freeze getting out! Wonder how hard it would be to put a hot tub in the van! Lol.

Would be nice to go with my love, he loves to fish and would catch dinner right out of the creek. He loves the mountains period! I love that he is getting to see mountain ranges while he is out there driving.

Hmmm, you know fish sounds good for dinner!
