going to buchanan mi on monday. i am going with a small fleet owner with 3 solos and one team. i am one of the solos and will be getting an 03 m2 mb 900 with a 44" sleeper. besides the clothes that i am packing what might i want to throw into the crawl space under the sleeper food/appliance wise.

i already left a msg for the owner about mechanical stuff.

You might consider a blonde but I dont know how easy it would be sometimes they get a little cramped up and when they start speaking out its time to throw the old one away and pick up a new one.

most blondes can be picked up at any corner taveren

A laptop with an air card, a good sleeping bag, bottled water. If you don't have a fridge, take a good quality ice chest in which to keep some sandwich fixings, snack items and fruit. Good luck. Enjoy each day as it comes. Remember it is an adventure, not just a job! Keep your sense of humor and a positive attitude.

Gloves, maybe two pair; one pair for fueling that can get fuel on them, and one pair to wear when you are handling freight, opening dirty truck doors, etc. I have tried different kinds and keep coming back to the cheap Wal-Mart variety. The expensive gloves seem to last no longer.

Have a good flashlight, preferably LED for longevity, and extra batteries. The fairly new one by Stanley that has it's own tripod stand would be good since you can aim it where you want and have both hands free.

Water for at least 3 days at all times. That means you have about a week's worth when you shop and every 3 or 4 days you replenish.

Trucker's atlas, even if you have GPS or laptop or whatever. There are times when seeing the orange on a road, or seeing there isn't orange, is reassuring.

At least 10 days supply of any med you take MORE than the amount you need until you'll be home next time, in case you get that offer from Chattanooga to Portland the day you plan to go home (been there, done that, can't turn down 2500 paid miles).

Some people suggest one of the disposable cell phones in case your phone doesn't have service somewhere that you are. I have sprint and tmobile and even with both at times have no service.

Wet Wipes. For the times when you can't get a shower and can't stand the smell of yourself anymore.

Books. Yea you're gonna sit. The Detroiter truck stop has / had tables full of cheap used books.

Food and a electric cooler. I liked to carry Slimfast shakes, you could "eat" without stopping. Not real filling but at least you don't pass out from low blood sugar.

Bottled water. Keeps you from having to drink the brown liquid that passes for water in some places.

V8 juice is another good option that can hold you over for a while. I try to drink one a day even if I don't need the portability that day. Have at least one blue pen also. I use blue for just about everything unless it says black ink only. The reason is you can't as easily mistake the original from a copy. You'll add to your list for a few trips worth probably.

definitly some wet wipe for emergencys when no shower is to be had some canned food such as soups and stew with a microwavable dish will safe you a ton of money
my philosophy why spent 11.00-14.00 for a meal when you can do it for 2.00 or less of course you got to treat yourself to a good meal everyonce in a while

Wet wipes? You mean like baby butt wipes? Oh, no. For general cleaning I use the disinfecting towelettes. But for my face, I use [/i]Pond's® Pond Clean Sweep Cleansing and Make-up Remover Towelettes[/i], because they deep clean my pores and leave my skin silky soft and smooth. Infused with Chamomile, Vitamin E and Triple Tea Antioxidant Complex, they nourish, soothe and pamper, leaving skin perfectly clean (and make-up free!) No rinsing necessary.

It's a mini spa treatment every day. :D

I think the only thing you need to take with you is the owners phone number so you can call him and tell him to get you a truck with a real sleeper on it, not a little 44" cubby hole........that's what I'd do! lol
oh yeah, and I vote for the blonde too!!!!!!!! :)

Don't buy any Road Pro stuff!!..I can't remember anyone having a good experience with that junk.

If you have an inverter I'd check into a regular coffee pot.

Definitely gloves for fueling, and wet wipes for any time your hands get dirty. otherwise you will get dirty hands which get the wheel dirty, shifter, soon you will be chasing dirt all over because you did not keep your hands clean.
If you have a microwave you can keep a lot of food on hand that you can heat at a rest stop while you do business and stetch a little, then eat in a few minutes (often taking less time than you would stand in line for the high fat fast food truckstop crap).
I would highly recomend a very sturdy container (kitty litter jug, for example) for that 0400 pee. Unless you want to get up, get dressed, and walk 100-500 yards to do your middle of the night leak.
I would be interested to hear how you are doing.
