LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Carmageddon begins Friday night, closing the San Diego (405) Freeway that connects the San Fernando Valley to the rest of Los Angeles.

The 10-mile, 53-hour closure will begin at the Ventura (101) Freeway interchange and stretch to the Santa Monica (10) Freeway.

This closure has made "National" news coverage for a couple of months now.

Gonna be one hell of a mess from what they're saying. People that haven't been paying attention to all the warnings and coverage will possibly be spending 24-48 hours stuck in their vehicles if they get caught up in it. Even people that live in that area are taking 2-3 days and/or the whole week off using vacation time just so they don't have to get out of their house during this time.

Sucks to live in the San Fernando Valley having to go over the hill to west LA or the airport while this is going on.

If you're going to the airport, just take the 101 down to the 110, then cut over thru Watts on the 105. At least it's for the weekend and a lot of mandatory work travel with be off the streets.
