Headed in a new direction

No, I'm not leaving expediting, just transitioning away from the driving end of things. It's just getting a bit too busy for me to stay on the road and keep up with things. I'm hoping things continue to get busier so I can stay busy running things from home and so I can make enough money to keep me from being tempted to hit the road again. I'm still going to keep the Sprinter to service a local customer base that I want to build. We just moved into a new house as well, so for the moment I'm not going stir crazy staying home and there's enough going on to keep busy during business hours, but I did see a couple loads that were just a bit tempting. The road was a blast and there are a few places I'll miss going, but I figure I'll still be able to do a load every now and then with my wife when we want to take a vacation, and I'm kind of looking forward to getting back into some activities I did before I started driving. I'll still be around here though, probably even more now than when I was on the road.

To tell the truth, I'm a little apprehensive. When you're used to generating most of your income yourself it's not always easy to make the transition to finding loads for others and making your income that way. Anyway, I couldn't have gotten where I am now without a group of great drivers that have helped me get the reputation I have as a carrier. A carrier is only as good as the people driving the trucks, and the quality of the drivers can really make or break a carrier's reputation. I've had some slackers, but I've been really blessed with the quality of people I've had and our reputation as a carrier has grown as a result. A good reputation leads to more business and better rates in the long run, so everyone who is driving should remember, especially if you drive for a smaller carrier, that the job you do can directly impact the quality of business and rates your carrier gets, which can improve your bottom line as well as theirs.

Well Charles, I know exactly how you feel.
Good luck on the stay at home adventure.
You will get the itch to get out from time to time.
Wife and I have went out several times, but now too many trucks to many things to do to hit the road for a extended period. That is when you find yourself buying the 45 foot camping machine. :D

The call of the road knows no financial bounds. People with money and without have a hard time staying home when the itch to lay down some miles begins.

Dave I Know you mean. I tell Tricia that I'm going on the road to get a vacation from the business.
