Hazmat

Are there any company's out there that do not require you to have hazmat? I have a CDL-A with Hazmat, but I am considering dropping it when I have my license changed to another state.

Why would you want to limit your options to haul freight?

I currently have a Missouri license. When I moved to Texas, they told me that I would have to retake the Hazmat test, fingerprinting and background check again. It is not transferable from state to state. Texas wants all this plus additional fees for a total of $250. It's just too expensive of a process that I can't justify.

Yeah, a HAZMAT is not transferable, even if you just got it last week and then move. You do have to do it all over again. But the fee is like $68.25 plus a $9.95 processing fee (cause you know, there's a lot of work in forwarding fingerprints to the FBI) and whatever the cost of the HAZMAT test and the resulting duplicate license to add the endorsement. Shouldn't be too much more than an additional $100 or so.

But, you could always add it later.
