i never though i would see fuel going the way it has gone
when i saw fuel going up to 2.oo a gal it was time to think if i want to still drive have to change how i do things so sold my western star and bought a sprinter and change gear's
also what help change to a sprinter was the hours of services
now with fuel going up glad i have a sprinter

Just a bit of a "detour" on the thread...Leo, you bring up tolls when calculating the run. We have started doing that as well. We get tolls reimbursed, but we've had tolls add up to 60 plus on some runs and that cuts quite a bit into the costs of the run. We have refused a few runs and explained the reason was tolls, and we've received extra for that.

With the cost of fuel and the economy not doing well it doesn't seem feesable for me to turn down anything. Granted, the loads with the nice fuel surcharge comes along every now and then, but I've been finding myself staying out on the road a lot longer then I would like. And seemingly waiting a lot longer for the next load to come around as well. I won't be surprised to see fuel go to 4$ a gallon.

I just went from lavonia michigan to brownsville texas, layover houston,2040 total miles.bought 100 gallons fuel in dexter mi.,195 gallons in mathews mo,and im sitting here in the knights inn, channellview texas, with 50 gallons of fuel left, the same fifty gallons that is always in the tank.we ran 60 mph for the trip.We left lavonia,20:45 thursday night, arrived brownsville 07:30 sat morning with a 10:35 sat morning appointment, stopped to eat several times, and even took a nap on the way.
fuel cost was $975,with fsc,of $675,we paid a little less than $1.00/gallon,but we did get 6.89/mpg by the trucks computer, and the pay for the surcharge for the dead head miles to houston isnt figured in,that will go on next load with the dead head pay.
I havent changed my way of operating,as long as i have been trucking,in the truck load business, produce business, and expediting.its always been a pool game,I dont look at the shot at hand, but what happens next.what you think might be that great load, could turn into your worst nightmare.
