First let me say hello to everyone on this forum. I just wanted to ask a couple questions about bolt, my husband start orientation there in a couple days driving a freightliner o/o. my questions are, about how many miles per week can he expect to get with this company? do they hold back paychecks a week or two? and what are some experiences you guys have had with them? are they a good company to work for as a o/o? sorry we are kind of new to this as he just got his own truck and this will be the first company he has leased on with as a o/o

Welcome, I had to read this a few times so can you edit your first line please. I know you don't have my keyboard which omits the letter O :p

I can't answer your questions but I understand it is a good company and there are a few bolt contractors here, so I think you may find answers to those questions.

"The first company"? With an attitude like that, you may want to consider not worrying about the small stuff, and throw your efforts toward devising a way to put zippers on your truck signs. But, if you really wanna know the gospel answers....i'd give bolt a ring and ask.

When i said first company i didn't mean he plans on switching companies a lot. all i meant was this is the first time he will be leased on as an o/o

Probably would have been a good idea to ask these questions PRIOR to signing on with someone.

1st Welcome to the house! Both here at EO an at Bolt....as a Cargo Van O/O i can't answer the mileage question on miles for a S/T, oh and Congrats on taking the big jump and buying your own truck, some times you have to take a risk to get ahead. Now as to Bolt the Comoany, great people on all levels, you won't be disappointed in that aspect.

As for holding back, i really can't remember if if is 1 week or 2, but its no more then 2...

Make sure your hubby gets to know Anne, she is as honest as the day is long...you can trust and believe her...lol, and Barb is not one to cross!! LOL Barb keeps us moving as she is the Safety and Compliance Officer.....Amanda makes sure you get paid as long as you have all your Bills in by sunday midnight....Dispatch is good to work with and like all other dispatchers I am sure, can drive you crazy at the same time...

So again, welcome to both EO, and Bolt....:D

We did ask questions prior to signing on i just wanted opinions from people that actually work for them. As for the do the hold back thing yes i admit we should have asked that first, but things were a little chaotic and we just simply forgot to ask a couple of things. As for the rest of my questions we did ask them, just wanted to see if they were telling the truth cause as i am sure you all know a lot of companies lie about the miles to get you in there

Thank you for your reply. I had the pleasure of talking with Anne this morning, she seems like a nice person. she answered my questions without hesitation. I will make sure my hubby knows not to cross the other one and have his bills in on time lol.

x06col is obviously old school. Most people these days use velcro. The real smooth sailers use magnets.

Hey shalynn19 , let me kick you once or twice and point out the obvious of a few things you should have done before you asked questions here...i mean, being kinda new to the industry and signing with a new carrier and being a new O/O is no big deal, why wouldn't you know to ask your questiones to the carrier to begin with,... oh you say you did ask them, but just wanted the opinion of some people that worked for the carier instead of just relaying on the recuriter...yea, well you did say you forgot to ask about the pay holdback...soooo....

But anyhow, welcome to the frey here at EO, now that a few of us here have kicked you and tried to show you in a i dim light.....

Ok sarcasim off...you know, a new person comes in and ask a few questiones that yes ,the answers can be found here already posted if the person takes the time to look, or those of us that have been doing this for a while understand that the carrier is the place to go for the answers in alot of situations...but wow, wouldn't it be a bit more welcoming to a newbie to just answer the questions instead of pointing out where they messed up .....

This is a membership issue and not a EO Admin issue..but even the mods sometime take this position....EO from what i have seen is here to help, and in most cases does just that, but in more then a few, this is the norm also... and while pointing out mistakes is often times a good thing, is it really necessary right from the start when a newbie has just 2 post!?!?

Maybe i am seeing this in the wrong light since i just had Excellent Customer Service for The Office Staff at EO, but from reading how this lady was shot at, just seemed a bit over the top, even to me....now put her in the soapbox, and all us fair...:D

OK Chef, you lost me. Is there something that I missed or ??

I read this thread twice now and just don't get your post.

Maybe it is the cats, yea that's it, my cats are messing with me again. Yesterday they replaced my dogs with squirrels and now I have holes in my floor. :D

i agree with you and thank you actually., but i have seen it on a lot of forums a lot of people just don't know how to be nice or courteous anymore and would rather be sarcastic and point out the obvious mistakes that a person makes. even if they already realize them themselves. but hey to each their own.

I agree with the Chef, we are all so quick to jump on the newbie about not asking questions or not answering them an giving them the standard use the search function answer.
I agree everyone should go back a couple years and read all the posts, but it really doesn't hurt a thing for people to ask questions, even if they are the same one over and over:D

To add to what Dennis said:

"Search the archives" has got to be the most mundane, bored, tired reply ever on this site. Things change. Maybe people/companies/products have gotten better or worse. It's better to get current information rather than something posted in 2007 or whatever.

I was w/ a company that I felt was crooked back when I started this. Maybe they've improved. I had a Sprinter that was an overpriced toilet a few years ago, but recently there's been some people who have liked theirs just fine. On the flip side a company I was w/ I liked just fine when I was there. Now all their staff is at another place. So maybe they're not as good (or maybe even better), who knows?

So recent information is what most people are after. Most people I would think HAVE searched the archives. They might not have went back 10 years, but I'm sure they went back a few pages or so. I rarely see a duplicate Q asked that's been asked recently.

Also, a fair amount of people have said "I've researched but can't find......" & then ask thier Q. I totally believe this because that's happened to me also. Ya try to look it up, & for whatever reason.. search criteria or just whatever, it doesn't come up. So maybe the info is back there somewhere, but the person just couldn't find it.

To the original poster. I don't work for Bolt, but as an outsider I have a positive image of em. It seems most of thier drivers are pretty happy. That doesn't A your Q obviously but I'd think your hub should at least go into his relationship w/ Bolt w/ a positive image.

If ya want more info on positive image, uhhhhhhhh.. you can search the archives

So I'm not the only one and going to make this suggestion again;

Why don't the mods work on something like a page for each of the major parts of the forum with links to the more informative threads on the site.

Some of these threads don't need to be updated or commented on, they speak for themselves and should be locked.

I don't understand the reasoning to push 'searching' or the reluctance to any new way to inform people coming here for info when something this simple can be done and it would help so many more people who are looking for answers while not knowing the terminology or the industry which in many cases is needed to search in the first place.

Thanks Danny for bringing that up.

"Search the archives" is common advice because there's so much a newb can learn from doing it. That type of research can be very mundane, but it's useful. And, what's wrong with telling someone they should be asking the carrier? It's only the best source for answers to questions as specific as things like pay issues, deductions, ect. Duuhhh...

Then there's things like, are they a "good company"? Boy, the pizzing matches we've seen from things like that. Member "A" says they're everything that's good and decent about the world. Member "B" says pond scum looks good compared to them, and it just goes from there.

What I'm trying to say is, as good a source as EO is, it has it's limits. It's one thing to discuss the industry in general. It's quite another when the discussion is about specific carriers. Have plenty of salt grains available.

Also, when do do an archives search you get a lot of post telling you to do a search of the archives.... Then you have to wade through them and 9 times out of 10....nothing
