Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to you?

My 2 cents worth if you are trying to train the dispatchers to be polite and respectful of drivers teach them not to say these words " Hey Tony, Man I really need a favor"

I wouldn't mind, "Hey Tony, Man I really need a favor", as long as its followed by, "its worth an extra $100, you interested?"

Thanks for the proactive question! Here's our two cents:

Unfortunately we've had alot of 'harsh' phone calls from dispatchers; usually to cover loads that no one else would do. (Kinda like the latest E/O cartoon situation).

One such incident a loader tried to overload our truck and wouldn't budge. The dispatchers tried to force me to accept it, and later the pres of the company said I should of taken it and gone somewhere to rearrange it. Had we collided or been scaled and been illegal, I doubt any of the mgmt would of been in court with me or offering to pay our fines or lawsuit amounts.

Another time we were 'arm-twisted' by a dispatcher to take a load into NYC, the day before the RNC. We vigorously refused and finally ended up hanging up on them.

But what really ended our relationship with the dispatchers was when they ran us to Cal, and then parked us for 6 days, included Salt Lake. The real problem was that we knew backhauls would be tight . . . so on Thursday we started calling to get back. 6 QC messages went completely unanswered. Phone calls were being shined on, and at the end were answered and immediately hung up on.

You know, if you don't have good news at least tell me. Communicate with me. At least let me know you realize we're still out here. But to not answer 6 QC messages and then not answer our phone calls sounded to us like they really didn't need us as drivers that bad.

But no hard feelings. Most of the dispatchers there were pretty good, it was just the company. And they did give us the impetus to look and find a better company to partner with. Bless their little hearts.

All of the companies that have less than desirable dispatchers had better wake up. The issue of driver shortages is starting to creep into this picture. The ones that master a good relationship with their drivers will be the ones who succeed and prosper.

Well I may as well add to this subject because I warned CTX not to threaten me or lie to me anymore and they went and did it again, a certain dispatcher with a name which starts with a V started threating to take me out of service if i did'nt take a run which would've created over 750 miles of deadhead miles and was talking down to me to the point that my wife said in the background that he was an a.. h... which he heard so he took us out of service and black balled us, so we deceided to stay out of service!

Best darn thing that's happened to me/us since I've been expediting we didn't even call them to let them know that we signed up with someone else! we would'nt even answer the phone when they called wondering where we were, reason being we wanted to get that last settlement check before we cut our ties.

Funny thing though! now that they know they lost a class A team with with a new heavy D truck they want to talk! well it's a little late for that now! the co. we signed on with last week is ran by a bunch of great folks that know how to treat their drivers! and we plan on this being a career move and hope to help bring success to both the company and ourselves!

It's sad that 1 or 2 dispatchers at a company can cause so much grief! I'm not one to run when things don't go my way but enough is enough and I hope CTX realizes what's going on and corrects this problem! I'm going to miss some of the great folks there! they seemed to be our friends, I just hope the bad ones don't pull the good ones down too!

The future looks brite! finally! :-( :-( :) :)

Be careful out there!

I wonder how you would have felt and reacted,if you had heard another dispatcher in the background calling you a a..h...?
You call yourself a Class A team.I think you are a NO CLASS team.

Professionalism has to be on both sides of the fence.
One bad dispatcher usually is not a reflection of a whole organization. The majority have never been on the road and know very little about what we do. There are exceptions, but very few.
Remember folks, keep it professional on here.

i feel that i must reply to redytrk's post. i have known sharp327 for over a year having comunicated first through e-mails and then by telephone.we kind of have our own support group because we both own the same type of truck, bought from the same dealer and with similar problems(both with the dealer and the truck)it was during these numerous phone calls that i became aware of the things that his carrier was trying to pull on him. one of them being that they told him that he would be paid extra for his use of his aux. axle when he hauled the heavier loads.(above the normal D unit capacity)and then they would conveniatly forget when that time came.and then when he tried to remind them of this was told to do it or be taken out of service. i think if these companies and dispatchers want to be talked to with respect, that that is a two way street.honor your commitments to the driver, and remember it's no forced dispatch.if they don't want the load for whatever reason, and you can't make it attractive enough for them to take it then let it drop right there.threatening to take them out of service because they refuse the loads that that the dispatcher wants them to take and in the process speaking to them like they are idiots is just wrong.and like i said from numerous times that i have talked to sharp and his better half, they are a class A team. DD.

DD you are clearly right. Companies must remember that these are independent contractors. Taking a driver that is an owner operator out of service is illegal. Under that provision you are dictating a work order which would give them a employee status. Pretty easy to find this information. Go to www.irs.gov

A dispatcher with a name that starts with a "__" at CTX..... The same guy that when I was concerned about completing a load safely because of lack of sleep because of the load, simply said. "You'll be OK". The same guy that threatened to cancel my contract because I declined a load to Canada on a Thursday - hey, who owns this truck??

What a dispatcher should not say: "If you take this run, at least you'll be moving" (but not making money)

Calls you while you're cell is in roam asking for your ETA (when you aren't due for 10 more minutes, and they can see you are 2 miles away on the GPS).

Tells you when you clear a load to deadhead 150 miles away because he thinks there will be a load there the next day (deadhead Ed).

Redytrk... what I read was a threat that if Sharp plays by the rules, he'd get his INCOME taken away. That, in my opinion, IS an A**hole!!! It is dispatchers with that attitude that are the reason most dispatching areas have plexiglass around them. How did he even know Sharp's wife was talking about him? Frankly, I don't blame her one bit. Change the rules in the middle of the game on me and I'll call you more than a simple bodypart :7
