some carriers just keep raking in the bucks...

Express-1 Expedited Solutions, Inc. (XPO) today reported its preliminary unaudited earnings for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2010.

For the year, preliminary revenues from continuing operations increased by 58% to approximately $158 million during fiscal 2010 compared to $100 million in fiscal 2009. During the same period, net income improved by 187% to $4,888,000 or $0.15 per fully diluted share compared to $1,705,000 or $0.05 per fully diluted share during 2009.

and still no dime....not officially.

Yea and?

I think with the big push last year to move stuff, almost every carrier made money, more than 2009.

BUT still they are small in revenue compared to others.

Didn't FedEx spend $158M on internal improvements like espresso coffee machines for most of their locations, massage chairs for management and fancy cubicles for the workers? Or was it on their new uniform design and the party/conference in Hawaii that they spent that much on?

Everyone in the chain needs to make a profit. After all, that us why everyone does this. The question is, who should get the bigger piece of the pie? 187% increase to net! Did any o/o have a 187% increase to their net? Without our assets, they have ZERO.

Who...How about the van drivers that lost .10 a mile from .80 to .70? Sprinters lost a nickle 1.05 to 1.00....that is who...Steady Eddie down from original contract of $1.15....that is who....the drivers that do all the grunt work...where are their rewards?....

Are those things in the contract? Can you show me a single instance of independent contractors receiving anything beyond their commission? I'm not aware of a single one.

How did steady Eddie's contract percentage reduced? Is his contract the kind that expires each year?

Not trying to sound snide... I just focus on my own paychecks and try my best to ignore how much or little others make... especially the executives or shareholders. It helps to suppress the homicidal urges.

what gets me is all of a sudden they can pay out all these bonus but for the last few years we can't afford to pay for this and that and you need to pick up the cost gets you to wander if the customers really lower the rates or just us who lost the rates and they pocketed the moneys

Exactly, the o/os didn't have 187% increase to their net. According to you, they didn't even get back to their original contract rate. That's just wrong.

I used to work for $1/mile... then the darn bang with the economy, followed by a huge drop to $.70 and even $.60 sometimes... but even so, including 2 months vacation, I'd say I had a decent income last year (drove over 100k)

Rebel..Glad you worked hard and did well, but the thing is, ya had to do 100k to make that decent living.
Think what life you'd have if you had of kept your rate or say even just dropped to the .80 mark instead of 60/70 cents...

I had to change the carrier, that's why that drop... as a matter of fact I had to choose between waiting a week or more to get that one dollar per mile run, or being busy all the time... beside that, while I was working for that buck'a'mile, I had around $600 monthly deductions... with the new carrier just $200 for truck and cargo insurance...

Right or wrong, that's the way corporate america works.
Everybody has to remember that a companys primary responsibility is to its share holders and nobody else.
