Texas could certainly stand on it's own and do better than this moron regime is doing, provided we keep our Austinfrisco liberal morons and our criminal aliens from directing how anything goes.

That is the problem. Too many people in each individual state tied to support from the Feds. Never would happen

I cannot find a rational basis for optimism. Our government is nearly nonfunctional and segments of our society are at each other's throats. Folks under 40 years old are royally screwed. For many of them, the American Dream is permanently unattainable. Labor is cheap, leaving little incentive to work. Inter-generational theft facilitated by the Federal government takes more and more from working folks to keep seniors happy. Got to keep the seniors happy. They vote.

Politicians lied to us and we liked the lies. Reality will either come fast as a tsunami or slow as the proverbial frog simmering in a pot of ever-increasing hot water.

Conservatives are losing on every front, it seems. The current state of affairs is so bad neither party can fix things. We are beyond conventional means and remedies. Americans are going to need a do-over. A "do-over" implies fundamental transformation even Barack Obama won't touch.

Trade you 10 Obamas for 1 Stephen Harper.

Although never a Prime Minister....

It was in 1995 that Harris led his Progressive Conservative party to a decisive, if unexpected, election win on the basis of the populist "Common Sense Revolution" platform.

What followed were some of the most divisive, in-your-face politics the province had ever seen, as Harris — dubbed Chainsaw Mike — took an axe to taxes as well as to spending on welfare and a host of other government programs and services.

Detractors loathed him with a passion that at times sparked violent protests.

Supporters loved the approach: re-electing him in 1999 with a slightly increased share of the popular vote.

Upon election, the Harris government immediately began to implement a far-reaching reform agenda in order to cut the large provincial deficit accumulated under the previous Rae government.

One of its first major policy decisions was to cut social assistance rates by 22%. The government stated that too many people were taking advantage of the program, and that it acted as a disincentive for seeking employment. Critics argued that the cuts were too dramatic, and increased the hardship of Ontario's poorest residents.

The government also introduced "Ontario Works," frequently referred to as "workfare," a program that required able-bodied welfare recipients to participate in either training or job placements. Opponents criticized both the rationale and effectiveness of the program, which was significantly scaled back after Harris left office.

Provincial income taxes were cut by 30% to pre-1990 levels. In addition, a new Fair Share Health Levy was established and charged to high-income earners to help pay for mounting health care costs.

Shortly after assuming office, the Harris government announced that several hundred nurses would be laid off to cut costs in the health sector. The government also implemented a series of hospital closures on the recommendations of a Health Services Restructuring Commission. Harris compared the laid off hospital workers to the people who lost their jobs after the hula hoop fad died down in the early 1960s, commenting "Just as Hula-Hoops went out and those workers had to have a factory and a company that would manufacture something else that's in, it's the same in government, and you know, governments have put off these decisions for so many years that restructuring sometimes is painful" (The Globe and Mail, 6 March 1997).
The Harris government cut funding of major urban infrastructure projects upon assuming office. Though construction had already begun on the Eglinton West subway in Toronto, a proposed rapid transit line to ultimately link the main north/south subway line of the city with the suburbs and airport, funding was cancelled shortly after Harris' election.[SUP][7][/SUP]
Harris's government also cut health spending to counter the $30 Billion cut in transfer payments from the Liberal federal government.[SUP][8][/SUP] It also introduced Telehealth Ontario, a new 24-hour toll-free telephone help line with live connection to registered nurses. Harris also announced funding vehicles such as the Ontario R&D Challenge Fund, the Ontario Innovation Trust and the Premier's Research Excellence Awards.

One part of the Common Sense Revolution was to sell off various government-owned enterprises, the largest of which were to be Ontario Hydro and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. Neither were actually sold off, but Ontario Hydro was split into five successor companies (the two largest being Ontario Power Generation and Hydro One, representing generation and distribution of power respectively) with the plan of eventually selling them off. Public opposition to the sale of these money-making government enterprises postponed the government's plans. In 1999, Highway 407 was leased to a private consortium in the largest such scheme to privatize the management of a public asset in Canadian history

I am probably a little more optimistic. The Republican party needs some transformation because of changing demographics but I would say down but not necessarily out. Obama didn't win by a large margin. Many states the Republicans didn't do that bad considering they had Romney.
Have to remember that Bush did well with Latino's getting 40 percent and Romney barely scratched the surface. That tells me it is maybe more the candidate.

If all else is lost, then Repulicans will continue do well at the state level, but poorly on the presidential stage until entitlements start getting cut and taxes continue to climb. At that point, that is likely were you will see a change back to Republicans or maybe a third party. I mean look at the buyers remorse on Obama already and it has only been a month.
As for democrats, just look at who voted for them. Take the gifts away, and you have a quickly changing political landscape.

Take their freebies away and the gemmie goobers will riot, just as they did in Greece. After all, they are ENTITLED to money and benefits that they did not earn. Darn those 4 letter words, like, EARN or WORK!

That day is coming. When the ability to borrow starts to become difficult, that problem will start to show up. We are currently at 16T in debt and still spending like crazy.

It is coming sooner than later for sure. Things are going to get ugly around here for a bit. The gemmie goobers are going to have to fight tooth and nail to maintain their irresponsible lifestyle. They LIKE living off of others hard work.

I just read an article where people were upset that their paycheck had decreased because of the return to regular Social Security rates. These were middle class people that saw a $10-30 decrease and got upset and concerned. As taxes start to increase even more we may see a fight against these programs by the middle class which could help get rid of them.

HERE HERE all the companies that got money invested overseas and in overseas banks I think they need to pay 50% in taxes. Million and Billion Richers I think need to be slamed to the deck. I also think companies that dont got to give employees benefits because they dont got full time workers Like Walmart need to pay outlandish taxes.
I also think goods from china and foreign countries should be taxed so that they cant undercut the american companies prices. I also think those countries overseas need to pay the US to be the police of the World and not charge the US 500,000.00 a day evertime a Navy ship pulls in to there Port. They ought to pay us. I also think that the House and Senate dont desirve all that money they get as they sure dont work for it I think they should have taken out of their checks for SS ECT. I also dont think that their health care should be free either I think they should have it taken outa there checks just like the retired Military. I also think they shouldnt be able to collect a pay check after doing only 2 terms I think they ought to have to do terms then do rest of the 20 years in community service non payed to even get a pay check. or they dont get didley. That would save all of us alot of money now wouldnt it. To think the sniveling brats are throwing around the retired military pensions them ghost faced bone heads are not going to steel our happiness they need to get a life and stop trying to runion ours.
