Handicapped

However the word got the negative conotation doesn't really matter. It is now 2009 and the fact is, using the word cripple when describing someone with a physical handicap/disability is demeaning to that person. If you don't believe me the next time you see someone in a wheel chair ask them. Say something like "I see you are a cripple, can I get that door for you". Ok thats just dumb. I guess you woudn't say that even with handicapped inserted. Actually, I don't think Hawk meant any malice. I believe he said it because he thinks it is a funny saying. I disagree with him but with that said, I am dropping it.

It's a demeaning description only if the person doing the describing wants it to be.

I have a friend who is a paraplegic, in a wheelchair, legs don't work. He'll tell you that he's crippled. He'll take disabled, because he used to be abled, now he's disabled. But he'll also tell you that he's not handicapped, because a handicap is, quite literally, an artificial burden that can be arbitrarily lifted, and his can't. He's very putspoken about that. Most people don't call him crippled, or disabled, or handicapped. Most people just call him Ray, or the County Clerk.

Yes it was judging and guess what, It's perfectly ok to do so, and good thing to do. He was asking the right questions because we all know there are scumbags out there who would miss use that, and other systems. That is why the moved from the "cripple stickers" to a tag that is reviewed regularly.

What ever happened to equal in the eye of the law. This is all about the politics of special privilege group. Its all about making your problems mine. You don’t think you have the best skin color so now its my problem to. You have pain now its add your pain to mine. Cant run your bank and make enough money so take my money also. Cant buy a house that you can pay for make me help you pay. Do it all under the color of law so I don’t get a choice if I want to “help” you or not its just required that I do and I am punished if I don’t doesn’t matter what my situation might be I am not part of the group. Where does it lead? Just where we are today. If you are a member of the right special privilege group (our so called leaders) you can make a “mistake” and not pay taxes owed in an amount that is more than most of us make in a year but its ok because you said “sorry bout getting caught on that one” while the rest of us are punished most severely.

Gee,

I just thought this post was about a parking space.

Simply wanted to point out that you cannot tell if a person is legally entitled to the blue cripple handicap disabled victimized gimp sticker by looking at their physical appearance.

What some people forget is that a degree from the University of Michigan, if kept in your glove box, will also allow you to park in handicapped spots and you don't have to display it in the window.

The new PC term is now Handicapable till people get offended by that term and move on to something else.

I'm already offended by it. It's not even a word. It doesn't mean anything.

That's the point, they keep coming up with new terms for an old word that people get offended by. Eventually, that new word is offensive also, so a new word is invented. That is what is so ludacris <-spelling about being PC

Not all Disabilty's are visable, I was born with birth defects that make me unable to walk more than 25 yards with out servere pain, but to look at me you would never know it

I agree that not disabilities are visible. I appear to be of sound mind and body until I open my mouth. Or type something.

My wife had polio when she was a kid, and before you ask, that was before the vaccine was discovered. She also had a recent hip replacement. She wouldn't even think of getting a gimp sticker. You guys missed that word. Several years ago she worked with a guy who was in a wheelchair. Don't remember his problem, but he was very small, had one foot in a normal position and the other foot tucked under him. He said handicap stickers were for people who were really handicapped. He parked in the back row of the parking lot and wheeled himself into the office every day. We know a woman who has a handicap sticker. She has a disease called FAT. Not sure what that stands for.

Several years ago I worked with a guy who was involved in a motorcycle accident. Some guy by the name of Jack Daniels was also involved. He lost a leg in the accident. Yes, he lost the leg in the actual accident. He said he was so drunk he couldn't understand why he couldn't stand up. Anyhoo, when he came back to work I made him a special trannny shifter lever for his bike that he could hook the shifter in a hole he had drilled in his fake foot. I remember him sitting on his workbench with his leg off and in his lap drilling a hole in it. After he came back to work I also remember him crawling up a very long ladder with a heavy length of chain to hook to the steel rafters of the building. He didn't have a handicap sticker, either. Loss of leg didn't slow him down. Don't remember if he and Jack were still friends after the accident.

Man, I don't think Flattop is judging anybody. He was wondering how a handicapped person is able to jump up and down from the flatbed. He even said that he didn't think about the situation when the handicapped person has a codeiver that does all the jumping. Just chill.

WOW I go away for a few days and all hell breaks loose on an observation I made.

First, I would like to thank aileron for defending me because he is absolutly right. I was just wondering how a "handicapped" sticker ever got onto a truck pulling a flatbed. THAT was my whole point. NEVER thinking about a codriver.

Second, I DO know how it is to be handicapped. At the age of 4 I was diagnosed with perthes disease. Most of you I am sure have never heard of it but if you get bored just google it. The doctors at the time said that by the age of 35 I would have to have my hip replaced. However, Ihave been able to put off this surgery for many reasons and the biggest reason is because I never let it slow me down. One of the reasons for my walk was to make sure my hip stays loose. There are days that I can barely even strighten my hip yet I DO NOT have a sticker and NEVER will.

So those of you who wanted to jump down my throat had better first re-read the initial post and not be so sensitive about their own handicap.

Not bad Charles but a degree from Ohio State can only be used to wipe the rear end of a U of M grad.;)
