Remember the old saying "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns". Street gangs in Chicago are heavly armed and do not hesitate to use it. Case in point an Officer was killed in the parking lot of the Police Station by a gang banger.

I have had both a long gun and a handgun, a long time ago.
We can have them up here, handguns are only restrictied,
NOT prohibitied...read pay lots of money and run around and they will allow you to buy one and keep it locked up, empty at home...To carry one is a whole different thing...
Why as Joe average would you ever decide a handgun is a good method of defense anyway? Crap I spent alot of money on rounds at a gun club to learn to shoot safely and actually hit what I was aiming at...IMO you would be better off buying a
short barrell shotgun with "00" buckshot to protect you in your home...
BTW, Canadian's are not allowed to use force to protect property, ONLY to protect persons and then the force used has to equal only the thread posed, you can't shot the guy with bat or you would have lots of time to see the inside of a cell...

A shotgun is far better in the house than a handgun, on the street as well for that matter. It is just too hard to carry on the street. "00" buck is NOT the best choice in the home by the way. It is possible for "00"" to pass through a wall and hit an innocent by passer. I prefer # 2 or 4 bird shot, lethal at in home ranges but it will NOT penetrate a wall. Why not protect your property? The police can't, the government can't, the criminal has NO LEGAL RIGHT to YOUR property. If a criminal does not want to get dead, don't rob. Simple. I will use ANY means I have to defend my wife, my self AND my legally owned property. PERIOD. I don't give a flip what the government gives me permission to do. THAT is how a FREE MAN thinks. I give in to no one. You can if you choose too. You might wish to face an 19 year old punk, hoped up on Meth or worse, with his baseball bat and try to match it. This 60 year old is no longer able to match a kid like that. I use an "equalizer". A 12ga or a .357 gives me the "edge" that I need. Life is tough, that "punk" should not have tried. He could get a job to make ends meet. He has NO RIGHT to rob, attack, rape etc. I DO have a right to defend my families lives AND my property, that I EARNED. NO man, nor government, will stop me, as long as I live.

Additionally, a baseball bat is a deadly weapon. Take a blow to the skull with one. You might get lucky and live. Or, maybe you won't. Same with a knife. Within a 21-foot radius, it's considered a lethal weapon. Lethal is lethal; it's all matching force.
