Greatest City to visit?

This might be better off on the Layover Lounge, but here it is.

Of all of the cities you have been to, which one would you want to go back to for a long weekend with your spouse. Say that you had one thousand to just blow after you got there. And Why that city.

I bet Detroit never comes up.

Your right...probably not Detroit, but we have had some great times at the Lake.
My picks would be NYC, Vegas, or a tie between San francisco and Key West FL.
Last year I would have thrown in New Orleans in Feb...but not for a while now.

I wouldn't choose a "city". I'd choose 64 through VA and WV and find places to stop along the way. That's been the best run so far for rivers and streams along the roadside as well as beautiful scenery and towns.

NYC hands down. We would like to go see some shows and also Times Square and the list goes on and on. What fun it would to go there with plenty of money and not have to worry about the truck. Someday we will be able to do that. It is on our long list of to do's

Sorry but I grew up in the NYC area, you can have it and it wouldn't bother me if I never see it again.

I vote for San Diego or Montreal. Key West is great but I don't think you can consider it a city.

As a sailor, I have visited most major east/west coast cities' waterfronts. The best liberty port in the USofA is Boston. From classy culture to trashy culture, Boston has it all

Honestly why not Detroit;

It has a lot of beautiful scenery and a lot of open fields and you can look at the great architecture of the remains of the burned out houses and buildings right from the freeway

A great restaurant – cockroaches extra, Yum!

Many places to get robbed, car stolen and even see a murder or two

ATMs all over the place in nice dark places near the casinos for your connivance

You can take in a dog fight or two or for something really entertaining see an IMAX movie about Detroit’s savior, Mayor Coleman A Young, nothing like a 30 foot high movie of the old great mayor telling off 60 minutes reporter Morley Safer, uttering those famous words in surround sound “how dare you question me, who the bleep do you think you are. I’ll buy any bleep thing I want, get the bleep out of here. bleep bleep bleepâ€

You can see the magnificent GM building that was abandon by GM in favor for the Ren Cen which was at 40% occupied by Ford and had 85% total occupancy. You can view the new GM building before they sell the GM sign to pay their bills at the same time admiring the sign of true Detroit art, the fist to memorialize Joe Louis across the street from the Coleman A Young municipal building

You can tour the art district, Heidelberg Street and what is left of Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project. You too could just take garbage out of the dumpster, glue it to your neighbor’s house and be an artist just like Tyree

You can watch new houses going up across from the auto factories where auto workers are soon to lose their jobs and the houses they just bought across from where they used to work

You can take a tour of Eminem’s haunts; take in the urban music scene. Visit Proof’s memorial and you can even go and place flowers at the Malice Green’s last stand and memorial crack house

Yea visit Detroit – all are welcomed.

But if you got through all that, I like Charleston SC.

I think I would go back to Atlantic Beach, NC. I was recently visited there while waiting for a load in the area. I had lunce and walked for about three hours on the beach and never had a rude person approch me. It was accually nice and calm (the women were also pleasing to the eyes). But in general it was a nice place to take a break.

Haven't been to Seattle, but I'd like to go for obvious reasons ;)

Somewhere I have been? New Hampshire. Get a room at a b&b in the mountains, maybe the beach in Maine and have a cheapo lobster sammich.

Funny you should mention Atlantic Beach. Only time I was there, my wife almost got sucked in by a riptide, while holding our daughter. We had fun tho LOL

Pigeon forge, Tn. Lots of fun things to do year 'round. We went thru there just to see the Christmas lights one year. Talk about eye candy.....or should I say A Hard Candy Christmas! The further away we got from I-40 the cheaper the rooms got. Finally when we saw $15 a cpl, we decided we weren't sleeping in the truck!

Pigeon Forge is east of Knoxville

Venice, Italy.....It's like going back in time...Walk the same avenues that Marco Polo has tread..The Doge's Palace, and the Piazza of San Marco, are unforgettable....

The history, and the romantic ambiance of the city is overwhelming.

You can get to NYC without worrying about the truck if you are comfortable leaving the truck in the bobtail lot at the Petro in Bordontown, NJ, a popular expediter hangout. There is a commuter train station just a short taxi ride away. You can catch a train to Philadelphia or NYC. If NYC, the train goes straight into Manhattan, to Grand Central Terminal (formerly Grand Central Station). From there it's a short walk to Times Square, the Broadway theaters and a host of other attractions.

I've been to San Fransisco twice and would go again in a heartbeat.(And, I'm not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.) But I would like to do a long weekend in NYC sometime.

For me it would be a close tie between a week in the emerald city (Seattle) or an extra-long weekend in the Poconos. Seattle for the culture and feel, and the Poconos just fot the chillin' out factor.

Beaufort, SC for us. In particular it would be Fripp Island. When you stand on the end of Fripp Island you can look across Port Royal Sound and see Hilton Head Island. No commercial buildings and the deer walk right up to your car. It is a gated community and very, very peaceful. The beach is extremely nice and loaded with Sand Dollars. My wife found over 150 in one afternoon. We always put the live ones back out into the deeper waters.

The Beaufort Inn has some of the best food in the world. Bay Street has numerous small restaurants with tasty delights and many interesting shops.

Savannah is only 45 minutes away and it makes for a nice day trip.

We go after Labor Day. The rentals are 50% less and all the kids are back in school.

For me its the Boundary Waters Canoe Area or Quetico Provincial Park. No cars, trucks, phones, pars, A8As, FAST, CDRP or CRAP. Just loons and wolves calling at night. The sound of thunder rolling down Lake Agnes. I try to get up there at least once every summer. Can't wait to dip my paddle again.
