Great Places To Eat!!!

We all know that eating in a truckstop gets tiresome over time and we find the need to find "something else". If you wouldn't mind sharing the best places to eat at, where they are, is there truck parking, and what is on the menu, that would be great.
In almost two years of expediting we had never been north of Green Bay, WI. This last week we spent two days in Marinette, WI. The only truckstop in town is on Cleveland Ave. It sports a restaurant called Tastebuds. They have the best smoked babyback ribs I have ever tasted. They are reasonably priced. They have many smoked dishes and you get your moneys worth. They have a decent breakfast menu, but this place is a smokers dream. If you like smoked meats/ribs, they have a huge smoker out back and they do a fine job in their kitchen. This place will forever ruin me on ribs. Now, if I can just find a way back up there...

If you are ever at the J in Olive Branch, MS head north (or northeast) on the road that the J is on for about a mile or so. Eventually you will see on your left a sorta hole-in-the-wall kinda place called the "Olive Branch Catfish House" - the lot is big enough that you should be able to park a straight there.

I got the combo dinner - two huge fillets - one was with their normal seasoning and the other was blackened with Cajun spices. Interestingly, the fillet with normal seasoning was far more intense than the one with Cajun seasoning. Both were great - but I preferred the Cajun myself. Great hushpuppies too.

If you are ever in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau (province of Quebec, Canada) a must try is this place:

Bistro Ambrosia-Accueil/home

For your first dish we would highly recommend the "Spaghetti Ambrosia".

Casual dress is acceptable.

Where to park the rig?

"Galeries d'Aylmer", which is a mall, is up the street. There is also a large strip mall with plenty of parking on the opposite side of the street.

Paul,

Is that right across the the river from Ottawa ?

I've been to Quebec three times in the last 5 weeks (Knowlton/Lac Brom, Ste Therese, Bedford, Magog, and Boucherville) ...... I actually love going up there - gives me a chance to knock a little of the rust off those 2 years of French I took in highschool ......

Yes, across the river on the Quebec side.

Don't worry about your French in Aylmer... you won't need it. Aylmer is very similar to downtown Montreal in that everyone speaks English and will switch immediately when your English accent is detected.

When in Louisville, on the southwest side on 31W, about a half mile or so north of 841 is Mark's Feedstore BBQ. EXCELLENT bbq chicken and the red sauce is delicious.

To the west of there less than 2 miles, on 1230 / Cane Run Road, just off Greenbelt Highway is Mike Linnig's Seafood. DELICIOUS fish and the tartar sauce is THE BEST anywhere.

In the Columbia SC area there is a small chain called Lizard Thickets. Great Southern food for very reasonable prices. D Units can park in their lots and you can get a E unit in at the one off I77 and US1 exit.

My favorite Places to eat:
#1. Eagle Villa Pizza in New Albany, OH. (not far from Columbus, OH). A large Pizza with Pep and Sausage is around 12$ I have their # if anyone wants to pm me i will give it to you. They have "THE BEST" pizza that I have ever eaten. medium crust, flaky, and edge to edge toppings. If you want everything they call it an "all the way". I have taken other expeditors to this restaraunt and they have thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice clean restaraunt. located right on the corner of US 62 and St. Rt. 605. You could also take 161 to the St. Rt. 62 or (johnstown rd) exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp. Eagle Villa is on the right hand side it is a brick building.

#2. Chicken. Hopkins Belgrade Gardens in Barberton, OH. This place has the best chicken i have ever eaten. they also serve it with a Hungarian style rice hot sauce which is awesome. I don't go here all the time, but it is off of a road called Hopkins belgrade rd or something like that. Maybe someone from the Barberton area can correct me on this issue.
3. Fish. Pondi's Lounge and Restaurant. St. Rt. 45 in Lisbon, OH it's before you get to the highway patrol station. about a mile west of downtown lisbon. Take 30 West to 45 turn right by the lumber store. Also may want to try Mark's Landing at Guilford Lake, OH for their fish as well. off of St. Rt. 172.

Shawn,

That hot rice is killer isn't it ? And the chicken is very unique - like none other. Several of my friends bused tables there while we in highschool.

There used to be two - Hopkins Gardens and Belgrade Gardens - could be that the owners were related. I think Hopkins closed down at some point (maybe not) - but Belgrades opened a second location in Green, OH - take the Massilion road exit off I-77 and go north up past the Speedway - it's on the west side of the road. Much easier to get to than the original.

Nope, the one in Barberton (Hopkins Ave.) is still there. Take Tuscarawus Ave. to Hopkins Ave and at the end of Hopkins ave there they are. Nice setting great food.

Agreed, the one in Barberton is a pain to find.....

A Schneider ad trying to recruit drivers from AARP asks "When was the last time you had lobster in Maine ? " When was the last time you saw a seafood restaurant in Maine with parking for a semi with a 53' trailer ? The only lobsters Schneider drivers see are in the tank at WalMart .

I also like the "Big Texan" in Amarillo. Their breakfast buffet is killer....$7.99 if I'm correct. they cook your omelette at the buffet and it will cover the entire plate. They always say, "everything's bigger in Texas". And they mean it. I also remember seeing this place on the food channel at one time it placed 3 out of top 10 places in the country to pig out. They also did a place in Missouri called "Lambert's Cafe"in Sikeston, MO and they throw the rolls at you. I believe Sikeston isn't far from I 55 for someone traveling near there. I haven't been to this one but the "Big Texan" I have and that place is awesome! they also advertise the 72 oz steak if you can eat the entire steak.
