Grease

For those who do your own PM, what type of chassis grease do you use? I would like to be able to use one grease for the front end, steering linkage, driveshaft fittings, rear end fittings, etc. I have been using the Lucas grease which claims to do everything and last forever. But really, is there a single grease that is acceptable for all of the grease points? I noticed that there is a Schaeffer's grease that also claims to do everything the Lucas grease does, except it's supposed to last forever plus 5 years, so I thought about switching to it.

I may be imagining this, but the Lucas grease does not seem quite as thick as some other greases I have used.

Well, I am not sure if you can still find it but I bought a car from a guy and he swore by a greese called Pink Panther, I think that was the name of it. I was looking online for it but can not find it. If I remember the guy said he would get it in FL. But anyway this stuff is wicked it is almoast like a gooy bubble gum consistancy and sticks to anything it comes in contact with very messy to work with but after looking at the parts on the car that never where replaced after 280k miles they looked like new!?!?!?!? the guy mentioned to me that this grease was used primarly in marine applications and was "salt water proof" like any grease or oil it is not water soluable but gives better protection. If you do come across it please let me know where to find it, and if I find it I will keep ya posted. also if it helps it is a pink color (go figure) :)

Good luck,
Andrew

I was dong a search for the Pink Panther grease and didn't find it, but I did find the following glossary of CB radio slang, which is sure to enrich everyone's vocabulary :

Some of my favorites:

Boast Toastie: a CB expert

Neon, Freon, Ion Jockey: Truck driver with many lights on his rig

Polack school bus: Cattle truck

Someone spilled honey on the road: State troopers ahead everywhere

After much research, I believe I have found the ultimate grease--Schaeffer's #221. It is tacky, waterproof (not water resistant), is moly fortified, doesn't get sqeezed out, thrown out or run out, is compatible with all other greases, and is suitable for all of my chassis lubrication points.

Schaeffer's makes several other fine greases, and Amsoil makes some fine greases, but to me the Schaeffer's #221 is the best for my application. It's pretty amazing to grease my truck, clean the fittings and the joints and not see any more running out after I have driven for a while. The fact that it is waterPROOF is a huge additional benefit--no washout.
