Thanks,i just hope i don't get a old one that hasn't been updated.I would hope they have upgrades on there web site.I can't recall if Garmin gives ya one free update or tom tom ? thanks for the imput.

If you buy one that's old, the update will be free. They do firmware updates for free, regardless. The map updates, it's best to buy the lifetime thing on that.

My Magellan is almost 3 years old. It worked better before I was able to update it online. I don't know why you could not update yours. Anyway, it does not work as well after I updated it. It still misses roads and tries to reroute me in the opposite direction after stopping (for gas, food, etc). It is rather quirky, but mostly gets the job done. Otherwise, I look up addresses and directions on Google maps if I have to.
