Gotta love Virginia

“I am not trying to sound callous about it, but we have to enforce the laws and look out for the greater public safety,” she said.

i don't care how you spin it or how you try and make it somebody else's fault making a driver, drive past his HOS time limit or just tired is about the most unsafe thing you can do! so it's not about public safety and i wish they would just stop trying to make it sound that way!

This is insane! What is the state thinking? What a shocking article! It makes you want to bypass the state of Virginia. I guess that is another one to tear out of our map book, huh?

I wondered about the state when I noticed they had put porta potties at most of the rest areas. And this is a state with pretty high taxes, also!

honestly the only thing they can be thinking is they need to reduce there states population and this is a good way to make it look like somebody else's fault

I have never had this problem personally but a buddy of mine was out of hours out in California and parked on an off ramp. He was told to move by CHP even though he did not have hours to do so. The officer signed his name and badge number in the log book and wrote permission for my buddy to move up the road to the next truck stop. On his way he was rear ended by a kid who was racing his car and lost control. My buddy got a ticket for being on the road after his hours ran out and was sued by the kids parents for injuries the kid sustained. The only thing that saved my buddy was that signature. When the judge saw that the officer gave permission to move all the blame went onto the officers shoulder's so to speak. Not sure if that would work in other states but it might be worth a try.

That article ought to be in the mainstream media, not just a magazine for drivers - we already know what the problems are.
Lack of parking is the main reason I will not go back to driving t/t. I remember especially one night, pulling into a rest area exhausted, finding nowhere to even stop long enough to use the rest room. I knew I was out of hours, and far too tired to keep going, but had no choice - had to pull back out and keep driving.
Everyone in any official capacity simply washes their hands of the problem, placing the drivers in an impossible situation, and I just refused to go along any more. It's too bad that most can't do the same, because the problem is totally unfair to drivers who'd like to stay out of trouble.

I Had a Similar Problem In Tennessee back in 2002.. I was traveling through Tennessee on My way to Florida when I Got real tired and Almost out of hours. I got off of a exit ramp and Pulled onto the Shoulder with my 4 ways on between a couple of other trucks. I was sitting there looking at my Atlas Trying to Locate either a Truck Stop or a Rest area when the Tennessee Highway Patrol drove by me. I didn't think anything of it because I wasn't Parked as I was Just stopping Long enough to find what I needed to Find. I only stopped for 4-5 minutes and started to leave when Barney Fife and Goober had me pull over to the side. I did and was told by them that they were going to issue me a ticket for Illegal Parking. I tried to tell them I was only checking my atlas for a truck stop or a rest area so I could take a Nap But they give me a ticket anyway for $126.00.... After they gave me My Ticket I asked them if they were trying to win a Toaster or Microwave from their Ticket writing Contest to see who can write the Most Bogus Tickets.. There Is a Difference Between Being Stopped and or Parked But they didn't want to hear that either............

wonder if this will affect vans also. instead of taking up one pull in spot in a deserted rest area we may be taking up 2 spots in a restaurant stop parking lot up the road.

If you can't park a cargo van in just one space, you deserve a ticket, lol. :p
Really, Jack: 2 spaces?

extended van will pull to the front of one space and the tail hangs over to the back one. yep. ever wonder why so many ford extendeds are backed into the kerb spaces? we got 2 feet over the grass.

That article is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Definately deserves 50 razzberries, and a boycott.

Yeah, that would suck Jack. I always stop at either the TA or one of the J's when I go thru there .

Like you said, wonder if it will affect us.

This is a case where everyone needs to contact there senators about this. The feds need to withhold federal road money given to this state until this law is changed.
