As of Yesterday Jan 1st New York State did away with the HUT certrificate and again requires all qualifying vehicals to display the HUT/FUT sticker. Yep, a blast from the past theyre back again. Happy new year.
Enforcement starts on Feb 1st. It will be a trafic infraction I have no news on points and fines yet but rest assured it wont be cheap so, if you dont have the new creds get them soon.
Also Dec 31 2012 NYS will stop automatic mailing of your H.U.T. returns you might get your last return mailed to you this month but thats the last one. You can download the form and print it off and mail in the hard copy or file on line. Deadline for now is still 30 days after the end of your quarter like usual. One last thing, check and make sure your tax rate per mile hasn't changed.

On a good note I looks like the 45% Truck toll increase on the NYS thruway is dead for now not sure on the Tapenzee and down state bridges but Ill sound off when I find out.

Good luck.
Bob Wolf.

Good on ya for the heads-up, Bob.

Here's some questions:
Who will pay to feed Sal, the mule that walks the towpath on your recreational waterway that the toll increases were going to increase for, and....

How the heck can you still afford to live in that state?

I still love NY, but where, oh where, does ALL THAT MONEY GO?

Nor me, Deville. I grew up real near Bob. Great place to visit, but the taxes there are at least triple of mine......ALL of them.

Maybe we could take up a collection and fill in Clinton's ditch?

Exactly. Property, Income, Sales.....plus that little gem of backdoor taxation called the Thruway. Want me to keep going?

Oneida and Erie county have the highest sales tax in NY at 8.75%. With property property taxes, income taxes, Utica taxes your cell phone, you pay a tax for garbage collection, pay $2.75 to buy each bag from the store, have a lack of jobs with more constantly disappearing because of taxes but the politicians wonder how to fix the local economy and then raise property taxes another 3%.

Yep. That brings me back to my first question: How can you afford to still live there? Or, why would you?

It's home. If I left I would still want to be close to NYC. I would just wind up moving to NJ. If I went to NJ I would want to be as far north as possible so the commuting for my chick to midtown would be easier. Plus we make a pretty good living. Gotta tighten the belt a little more now that we have a baby.

To answer your questions..

Sals owner made an awesome Mutton stew the night before Christmas I guess thats why they moth balled the toll increase for now.
As for living in New York State I would like to move as soon as I can afford to sell the house and book outa here. You mentioned the ditch, I live only one house from the canal so if property starts moving again I might make out.
That is ofcourse the Clarendon fault line dosent shift befor then.
As for where dose all that money go Albany and N.Y.C. Gotta pay for all the pork.

If it wernt for the STAR program to no one would be able to afford to live in N.Y.S. .... BUt then again it is annother government program that probably costs more than just paying the full shot.

We are from Liverpool and we were looking to move to tenn. but further research figured out that Texas is better for taxes once retired... so now we are officially texas residents... Got way to tired of paying so much to live in such a dysfunctional state.... all the kids are still there so our time off is spent there. once retired will keep a really nice 5th wheel there to spend summers..
