Goodbye CLC card

We have stopped using our CLC (Corporate lodging card) card, starting at the beginning of this year.

We just got tired of calling places listed in their book and having them tell us that they no longer take the CLC. And this is with keeping updated on new versions of their listings.

Due to extreme weather conditions that we have found ourselves in this past winter and being stuck by road closures,we have been getting hotel rooms more frequently than in past years.

The discounts that we were getting using the CLC weren't really that great, and more often than not the quality of the rooms for listings in the middle price range wasn't good either.

We have taken the advice of some very good expediter friends and started booking rooms on priceline.com and on hotels.com and have had some amazing results with the two of them.

Twice now we have spent a Saturday and Sunday in the Chicago area (actually Lisle,IL) at a 3 1/2 star hotel, the Hyatt just off I-88 at rt 53 for $35.00 a night.

We have also stayed in a Residence Inn in Vancouver ,WA,a very nice place for only $38.00 a night. (it even had a fireplace and laundry facilities)

Another time we were snowed in in Reno,NV. (I-80 closed in both directions) and got a room at the Circus Circus hotel and casino another great place, for under $30.00 a night.(We have seen them go as low as $23.00 a night here)

So for those of you that haven't tried this way of getting hotel accomadations, I say give it a try. And don't be afraid to bid really low on the rooms if using priceline.:D

Speaking of hotels, would like everyone to know thing in the hotel way are not very good in Laredo. Truck had to have the xy shifter replace Monday so we ended up staying in a hotel Monday night. Called the Family Inn and Suites. :) Good price - $59.99 for two. Bad - asked if they accepted pets as we have 2 small dogs (about 5 pds each, Yorkie and extra tiny Shi tzu) was told it would be an additional 50.00 fee for each dog. ($100) Thought it must be a mistake so questioned the girl if this was a deposit that was refunded, told no it was a fee. Needless to say, did not stay there.
Called the Days Inn off exit 4, :) Good 68.35 for two, free shuttle to and from other then two 10.00 tips to the drivers. bad, charged 20.00 for dogs - worse, they charged my credit card 4 times. Still waiting for extra 3 charges to be reversed. Just a thumbs up on the goods and the bads and what to watch out for. (FYI the dog charges are fees not deposits)

Yesteryear,I just did a quick search on hotels.com and found 2 places that are pet friendly (but that can sometimes still mean a fee) in Laredo.

The Red Roof Inn on Calton rd for $38.24 a night, and the Extended stay America on Village Blvd. for $49.99 a night.

Ain't ya gotta have some type of credit card or can it also be a debit card??? I reserved a hotel over the phone in canada and used my debit card. When I got there they told me that they would only take credit cards and not debit cards. thought this was a krok of u know what. This was many yrs ago.

We used a debit card at all of the places that we stayed, with no problems.

Yeah Doggie Daddy, I checked it out too. Says Days Inn is 50.99 a night for 2 and pet friendly but they charged us 68.35 for 2 plus 20. fee for dogs, that is if they ever get around to reversing the 3 overcharges. :D Their site says locations may vary if they are independently owned and yep, says on the reciept it is independently owned.
Don't usually do the motel thing so wasn't prepared. Only had the phone book to go by and needed one with a shuttle. Didn't have wifi to look one up on the web at the time. Live and learn, at least I can help others by letting them know where not to go if they have pets. lol

Another thing they did that I did not like was make a photo copy of my drivers license and my credit card. Drivers license I understand but credit card?

Wow Doggie Daddy, how do you do the 'priceline' thing? Don't ya have to know when you would be there in advance to book a room, I mean, you can't do it at the last minute can ya? Boy I'd sure like to stay at Circus Circus for a couple days! If I knew it was that cheap I would've! :D

Yes you can do it as a last minute thing,as we booked our Circus Circus rooms from their parking lot.We used hotel.com on that transaction.

Not only were the rooms a great deal, but they gave us a coupon book for deals in the casino and restaurants.

We just got our CLC card due to a hotel we will be staying at for a seminar we are attending. We went through OOIDA and were able to get the card free and book the room. The seminar "special" price for a block of rooms was $99.00 but using the CLC care we were able to get the room for $54.00 a night.

We have only got hotel rooms if the truck is broke down or if we are on a military load where we cannot stay with the truck. We will have to give these suggestions a try.

Great Tip!!! Thanks

Credit Card to book a room Re: Goodbye CLC card

Not a crock of (stuff) at all; but it's for the non-smoking laws in Ontario.
Smoking is prohibited in motel rooms; you have to go outside for a puff.
They take a credit card so they won't get stuck if the room requires a special cleaning if smoked in. You try and sneak a smoke in your room and you'll find a large charge to your credit card sometime later.

I too have been happy with Motel 6, just a basic clean Motel room, with no frills. I got their listing book and find the nicer ones are the newly remodeled ones. I have been to a couple crappy ones. Like the one in Fort Wayne, IN
To be honest though I have stayed in worse motels that are dirty. As long as the room is clean all I really need is a bed and TV. And I have paid more then what Motel 6 charges
We will leave the light on for you!!! :)

But getting back to the original intent of this post, all I was basically trying to say was that by doing this online it is cheaper and there is all and every hotel listed not just a few for the area that you are in that would even take the CLC card.

The CLC is just one of many tools we use, sometimes it pays and sometimes not. We try to look at many options within the time we have to look. We then take the best deal. Layoutshooter

I always go to the CLC web site and book the room that way you don't have to make a bunch of phone calls but i may get a room 2 times a year so its no big deal for me anyway

We stayed at the Circus Circus at the same time Doggy Daddy and Mare stayed there and
were about 5-6 rooms down the hall, the wife and I both received 2 free nights stays which will expire May 31st just by giving our e-mail addresses and game playing for 2 hrs. and they gave us credits to play with during the 2 hrs. and we kind of drug it out so we didn't have to dig in our pockets little if any.

You can put your dogs in the kennel and monitor them on close circuit tv if you want too, I thought you could keep the dogs in your room because they advertise that they're pet friendly but was busted day 3 by security so our dog went to the truck which was much nicer than a kennel and we just ran the bunk heater to keep Shadow warm.

When in laying over in Laredo we like staying in the state park near the newer Wal-mart by TX 20 & US 59 hwys. the rv sites are around 20$ for hook ups and they have showers and pic-nic tables with awnings...according to the park ranger..you don't need fishing lics. if you're only fishing from the shore....so buy some steak..charcoal..and worms and have some fun, Pets are welcome at no extra charge but must be kept on a leash.

We had a blast with DD & Mare and can't wait to meet up with them again!

Hope everyone had a real nice Easter!...we did here in Houston

Thanks for the information! We'd much rather stay at a campground than a truck stop when the price is reasonable.
