OVM , Ask them how mach of that operation revenue is do to over charging its costumers for fuel surcharge ...

the 3rd Quarter was that one that fuel prices made a U turn , it took the shippers some time to adjust the rates ...

Those increases are probably due to their acquisition of Concert Group Logistics. They purchased them in early 2008, so their revenue will be included in their gross revenue for '08. They also entered into a contract with Langham Logistics around the same time. Take the figures for the same structure as '07 without the purchases, mergers and acquisitions and I'll bet they're down like everybody else.

Is there any further info, as to the reasons? Usually when stats like that are given, they are weighted with other factors, which lead to a more comprehensive understanding of the whys and why-nots, and comparisons against same time-frames.

Express-1 Expedited Solutions Reports Strong Q3 Results: Revenue Increases 143%, Operating Income Rises 160%
11/06/2008 13:30:02

SAINT JOSEPH, Mich., Nov 06, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Express-1 Expedited Solutions, Inc. (AMEX:XPO) today reported its
earnings for the third quarter, ended September 30, 2008.

Express-1 Expedited Solutions, through its four operating companies
(Express-1, Bounce Logistics, Express-1 Dedicated and Concert Group
Logistics), provides the following premium transportation services:
same-day delivery, time--sensitive shipping,
premium freight brokerage and dedicated transportation throughout North
America, as well as domestic and international freight forwarding.

Express-1 Expedited Solutions reported a 143% increase in revenue during
the third quarter of 2008 to $32.4 million, compared to $13.4 million
for the same period in the prior year. The acquisition of Concert Group
Logistics, which had a transaction date of January 1, 2008, contributed
$14.3 million to revenues for the period. For the third quarter, the
Company's Express-1 operations expanded
revenues by $2.1 million or 18% over the same three-months in 2007.
Bounce Logistics gained traction and contributed $3.0 million to the
overall increase in revenues. Bounce Logistics is a start-up premium
truckload brokerage operation that began operations in March 2008. The
Company's other business unit, Express-1
Dedicated, increased revenues slightly during the period. When combined,
the Express-1 Expedited Solutions' business
units delivered record revenue and operating profit during the period
and the Company continued to grow at a healthy pace in the current weak
economy.

During the same period, income from operations substantially increased
by 160% to $2.0 million versus $778,000 during the same period of 2007.
Net income improved 131% to $1.2 million or $0.04 per diluted share for
the third quarter of 2008 compared to $499,000 or $0.02 per diluted
share for the same period in 2007.

"Throughout 2008, our Company has
significantly changed its geographical and operating footprints. The
acquisition of Concert Group Logistics and the start-up of Bounce
Logistics has begun to dramatically improve our results. We're
pleased with our growth and profitability for the third quarter, and
happy to share the success of our business units. Given we're
in such a difficult freight environment, these results are a strong
testament to our business model and the team we have in place throughout
our Company," stated Michael Welch, the
Company's Chief Executive Officer.

That is all fine and dandy, OVM, but you are not giving all off the information. I read the same report and sales are up due to the aquisition of two companies "bounce logistics" and "concert group logistics!" These two sectors of Express-1 are not related to the "traditional" expedite section in Buchanan Michigan; these two companies deal more with ltl and regular truckload type of stuff. This is excellent news for Avery, Curry, and the rest of the folks who run Express-1 as they have adjusted their "long term" business model in order to survive the impending crisis in the automotive industry. This is, however ,not good news for those of us who are driving cargo vans and sprinters, as regular truckload type stuff does not pay as well as expedited freight, and in most cases it is too heavy to fit into a cargo van. Now, if I were by chance to get bcak into a tractor trailer, I might be in better shape over the "long term" as well. Any how, I hope things get better by next year.:p

Don't feel too bad, OVM. Panther is giving a fixed surcharge of about 17 cents per mile right now on top of 77 cents per mile "canadian linehaul contract" and 75 cents per mile "non canadian linehaul rate!" Grant you there are some panther drivers getting up to 30, 40, 50, even 60 cents per mile fuel surcharge on the variable rate plan; but that is not always the case. I used to get 32 cpm fsc back in 2005, but then there were times that I would do a 950 mile load with a 9, 11, or even 13 cent fsc. But, to tell you the truth, E-1 was really raping us on those caterpillar loads, because Tristate and Panther are both giving a 32 cent fsc to their drivers on cat freight. I was getting a 32 cent per mile fsc on Caterpillar freight back in 2005 when panther used to do partner carrier stuff for Tristate. So, what happened to them Cat contracts, OVM?

We still do them but only as a third party....

About the other divisions...I've run 2 Old Dominion loads and 3 GCL loads in the last month...so they do help...

I just started with Express-1 2 weeks ago. The week I was in orientation, I ran 1600 miles. This last week, I ran 4000 miles(no bs). Haven't seen a load under 700 miles, in a 22' straight truck. Hope it stays this way till Christmas.....:D
