Good for Goode!

Congressman Virgil Goode (R-Va.) views as ominous Congressman-elect Keith Ellison's (D-Minn.) decision to take his oath of office on the Koran, the holy book of Islam. "I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way," Goode said in a letter to constituents." The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran."

Goode continued: "I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped."

In normal times it would be hard to imagine Goode's remarks being considered very controversial. But with political correctness now running amok, the times are anything but normal — as evidenced by the media reaction to Goode's letter. The Washington Post, the most influential newspaper in our nation's capital, titled its story, "Va. Lawmaker's Remarks on Muslims Criticized" — not "Va. Lawmaker Opposes Taking Oath of Office on Koran."

But who'd criticize Rep. Goode for his sensible stand, particularly in a country founded on Judeo-Christian, not Islamic, principles? Well, according to the Washington Post, there's the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has called on Goode to apologize.

The Post quoted CAIR's executive director, Nihad Awad, as saying: "Congressman Goode's ignorant and divisive statements are an affront to Muslims in his district and to Americans of all faiths who believe in our nation's longstanding traditions of religious tolerance and diversity." However, the Post failed to describe what is meant by "religious tolerance and diversity." According to Omar M. Ahmad, CAIR's chairman, the Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.

But that's exactly what Virgil Goode does not want to see happen in America as a result of uncontrolled immigration and an exploding Muslim population. "The Ten Commandments and 'In God We Trust' are on the wall in my office," Goode noted in his letter. "A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, 'As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.'"

Good for Goode!

Good for Goode is correct. Unfortunately many are too naive, ignorant, foolish or a combination of same to appreciate what he said.

'Imagine a Mountie in a turban? Its a done deal!'

What?

I think you all are funny!!

Don't you know that the people who wear turbans are usually Sikhs (and from certin regions) who are from India/Pakistan and come through the remains of the British imigration system in Canada.

Most Arabs I know and know of wear small skullcap often called a kufi outside of the Immans, Mullahs and Ulemas. I don't think I have ever seen a Muslim where a turbin, even in Africa.

I know of three FedEx Contractors from Canada who are Sikhs (and yes wear a turbin) and one helped me (didn't have to and went out of his way to get to me to help) with my van when I had a problem last year.

Now compare that to my Florida incident, who do you think I would rather have around?

Is it preferable to have someone with the morals of a Kennedy swear on a Bible ? At least Ellison has strong faith . I doubt he tries to get sexually involved with any pages . There is much misunderstanding about Muslims . My wife is reading an excellent book "The Faith Club " in which three women a Jew , a Christian , and a Muslim discuss their beliefs . Check out the reviews of the book at Amazon and B & N . There needs to be more tolerance for religious freedom . If someone is qualified for a position and is elected , faith should not be an issue .

I don't like it when someone calls a person traitor or commie just because they have an different view on a situation. It becomes very easy to label someone just like Sen. Mc Carthy did during the cold war.

People didn't like the protesters during the Viet Nam conflict. I didn't like the idea of getting shot at then. Now I don't want kids getting killed in Iraq. Perhaps we could have won in Viet Nam. What would be different today? A Mac Donalds would have been in Saigon instead, they are in Ho Chi Min City. War changes nothing. The only thing it does is kill alot of kids, and make some people rich.

Hitler had a great way to get the country behind his sick thinking. Just find someone to hate. It was the Jews for him. Now, we are on the the way to doing the same thing to the Muslims. I would like to think that we are better than Hitler. However, some of the comments here lead me to believe that we are not.

Now Road Hooligan I wonder what history book did you learn from?

Anti-Semitism was entrenched and still is in Europe. Hitler was one vehicle used to eliminate the Jews, the other was with in France by the government to rid themselves Jews and of course Spain. We here in the US had a problem with Anti-Semitism and the hatred of Jews until the 1960’s.

I am trying to figure out how you think that we are doing the same thing as Hitler with Muslims? In truth actually far from it. We have sensitized our military to all kinds of things from not allowing our troops to have Bibles in Muslim countries to reengineering the MRE by removing pork out of them to first asking questions before defending themselves. We are quick to persecute our military based on sometimes false accusations than we are pursuing the people who are actually doing the killing. We allowed Iraq to judge and execute Saddam, which we should have just hung him ourselves and cremated his body like we did with the NAZIs and bury the ashes with pig blood. Instead our media villifies us and the Iraqis over the hanging to make it look like we are the bad people. We didn’t even do that with what’s his name who took the 500lb bomb hit, his body got a ‘Muslim’ funereal. So what are we doing wrong?

I had a lot more to say but I don’t have the focus to go on.

We do tolerate religious diversity. How many countries are more tolerant than us? But that's not enough for the radical Muslims. Worship Allah or die. I know the majority aren't radical, but the radicals are among us. How do you tell the difference?

You can be sure the FBI and CIA are watching activities around mosques very closely . They know who most of the radicals are .

I completely agree (withone exception) with you TallCal, this was the fault of a lot of different administrations but mainly Carter and his implimenting the Church commission and another commission findings.

The exception is "There were NO Aribic speaking agents in the CIA in the middle east in either the 80's or the 90's!!!" There were but not used properly. There were problems with Farsi (Iran) speakers in the company.

All this makes me think how much better Native Americans would have been if they had a strict immigration policy 400 years ago . Now we are worried about Muslims taking over what our ancestors stole from the Native Americans after committing atrocities and killing their women and children .

For anyone that wants a better understanding of radical Islamist philosophy, especially that of Al-Qaeda, I highly recommend a book called "The Looming Tower" by Lawrence Wright. It's still in hardback and gives an excellent account of how this terrorist organization was put together for the purpose of waging jihad on modern culture. It covers the time from Al-Qaeda's beginnings until just after the 9/11 attacks and gives an interesting description of how inept the FBI and CIA were during the 90's in dealing with terrorism due to their petty bickering and lack of inter-agency communication. Everything in it is factual and well documented. After reading this book you'll come away knowing that there's no way to appease these nutty fanatics - they simply want to kill anyone that doesn't share their beliefs and take civilization back to the seventh century.

True Hawk, but our President still thinks victory is just around the corner.Lets just send in another 20,000 or so American kids to get in the middle of a civil war,and that will surly result in "victory"(someone please define for me). It's absurd, the last thing,I really like the idea of canning the GENERALS IF THEY DON'T HAPPEN TO AGREE WITH TODAYS "NEW"APPROACH.May God have mercy on us.

I believe Lincoln changed generals often because either they did not prosecute the war the way he wanted it done or they lost battles.

Bring home the troops and send over Fat Boy and Little John to deal with the terrorists and insurgents. The war will be over with a definitive ending date. Repeat the process for Mahmoud Howeveryouspellit and for Kim and those two problems are no longer a problem.

Besides Lincoln, during World War II both FDR and Churchill replaced several generals whose methods of waging war didn't work. It's hard to imagine what kind of squealing we would be hearing from the liberals in congress and the media if they were having to deal with WW II. We lost over 2000 soldiers just in the training exercises leading up to the Normandy invasion - can you imagine the outcry today over that?! Like WW II, this is a conflict we have to win no matter what the cost. Hopefully, Bush has finally realized we have to quit screwing around in Iraq and stamp out the terrorist insurgency with whatever force necessary even if it means killing a few "civilians" that are probably terrorist enablers anyway. The sooner we establish order in Bagdad and get the Iraqi govt. on its feet, the sooner we can get our guys out of there and get ready to deal with Iran.
