Looking to try this type of trucking. Who are some of the better companies. Who has freight now. Talked to some drivers and some seem to sit more than others. FedEx, Panther seem to be mentioned as good. What about Tri State & Con Way & Landstar?
Thanks

All good companies.

There are other too!

Much of anyone's success is dependent on attitude.

Uh, that means not having a poor attitude.

Learning when to run, and where, is also is huge factor.

Understanding your operational costs versus freight offers will go a long way toward helping you to stay in business.

PS. I'll assume that you are considering a straight truck, because very, very few are adding cargo vans to their fleets. All of those you have listed have a freeze on cargo vans.

We are with Conway and are doing really good. Have been running hard for a while now. Not too many slow periods. But like someone else said it's all about your attitude.

My short list would include FX (primarily if running team), P2, X1, LEAM, ConWay and TranStewart. That's not to say there aren't other good companies, just those that make up my particular short list of good.

Concur with all of the above. Each of these carriers are successful and respected expediters. I'll also say that Fedex Custom Critical has served this old sailor quite well for the past 16 years. Knoxville is an area from which we have a fair, not great, but fair amount of freight.

Each of the companies will be in attendance at the Expedite Expo 2006. A great opportunity to compare them all with the stories you've heard about each.
