Gift Idea for the FedEx Person in Your Life

FedEx Custom Critical contractors are known for the pride with which they wear the company uniform and the religious fervor they feel for the brand. Here's the ideal gift for them ... purple pope socks!

"From their little shop in Rome, the Gammarelli family has been outfitting popes, as well as cardinals, bishops and priests since 1798 .... Gammarelli socks are designed as religious clothing, so they are available only in cardinal red, bishop purple and priest black. The pope wears white socks, but 'Mes Chaussettes Rouges' only offers white upon special request."

When you view this web site, you will see that bishop purple is the same shade of purple used on FedEx apparel.

What could be more perfect for the FedEx person in your life? At just 19.90 Euros a pair, they are a bargain at twice the price!

I thought it was quite humourous myself.....

Thank you, Guido. Humor was the intent.

Hatred? I'm disappointed at the mention of it. Though, I do understand that if someone wants to believe that someone else hates a company, congnitive bias will lead one to find evidence to support that opinion, even if the evidence is not there and the opinion is incorrect.

If I suggested black pope socks for Panther drivers and red pope socks for Express-1 drivers, would it be evidence that I hated those companies too? No such suggestions were made because those companies do not have uniforms for their drivers.

It has been almost six months since Diane and I left FedEx Custom Critical for Landstar. As regular readers know from my posts at the time, it was an emotional event. We felt disappointed, sad, angry and more that the company we were proud of and believed in for nearly eight years changed its policies, practices, compensation and opportunities such that staying there was no longer an acceptable option.

So off to Landstar we went. We were not the first or last to do so. A number of FedEx Custom Critical contractors preceeded and followed us in this move.

It is said that time heals all wounds. I have observed that the longer a contractor has been away from FedEx Custom Critical, the less energy he or she has on that company.

Diane and I speak frequently with Landstar teams like us who left FedEx Custom Critical in recent months. Early on, and understandably so, there tends to be much talk and comparing of notes about our former company. But as time passes, FedEx comes up in conversation hardly at all. The business of the day is more important and what happened before matters less and less.

That being the case, I again suggest -- as a humorous gift idea -- purple socks made by the papal tailor for the FedEx person in your life.

I'm currently in FedEx contractor apparel, waiting to unload. If I had some purple socks, I would wear them proudly. Perhaps purple underwear will become available soon (with red trim and a reflective waistband) . Funny post BTW.

$27 for a pair of socks? I don't think so, at least not in this lifetime. Maybe for at least a half dozen pairs of socks if they were good quality.

I feel nothing religious for fedexcc I've been here since March 2004 and will continue

You got it.. they meet my needs.. when they don't, I'll move on... without the need to constantly point out those who still like a company I no longer work for, and was constantly accused of being a cheerleader for! :)

(I think I'd look good with pom-poms!)

Exactly I'm not a cheerleader for any company I still enjoy it here yes every company has things u may not like. I can't figure out why people make a big deal out of it when u leave a company for another one

The more you care about a company and identify with it, the bigger the deal it is when you leave.

I don't know about that ... maybe when one thinks that they are special and they expect the company to change to their business model, they get a rude awakening and leave thinking that everyone else should too.

Phil, do have a couple pair you want to get rid of ? Iam sure that would be appreciated by us broke FED EX CC drivers. I can't afford those socks, but I would be glad to hand out the purple socks of the anointed one.(lol) or ex-anointed one which ever you prefer.

I do not own any such socks but with Christmas coming I have let Diane know that a black pair is high on my wish list. It has nothing to do with FedEx. I just think it would be great fun to put on a new pair of socks knowing I am having the exact same experience the pope has when he puts on his.

Who knows? Maybe extra credit would be given at the pearly gates if you happen to be wearing a pair when you croak.
