Now, that sounds like your working to much and not getting out hunting enough.:D

Leo,,I'm guessing ya never been duck hunting with that 98% of hunters ambushing thing.. Nothing better then setting a group of birds in your lap in a place the birds didn't have any intentions of setting down in the first place..(other then eating em of course :D )
I agree that deer hunting has become more of a ambush hunt anymore.Very few ppl actually get out and stalk em (still hunt) But we do that so we can get it over with and get back on the ducks.

Yes I am working too much and not hunting enough, BUT, I am still GREAT with a shotgun!! LOL It is rather easy shooting when you get the birds into about 20 yards with their flaps and gear down!!!

Yep,,Its hard to hold off during all the dish ragging while they are looking at your spread..Its the locked feet I try to hold off for..most of my misses come when there is a group of birds,,not sure why, I think I start looking at my next shot before the first one goes off

We get very little "dish ragging" Divers, the canvasbacks for sure, tend to just pile in. We watch come straight into the blocks sometimes from half a mile out, lock the gear and set the flaps!! It is FAR easier to miss on multiple birds, to much "stuff" going on. Too much movement, wings flashing etc.

Believe it or not, we often hunt in only 3-5' of water on Lake Erie. You could walk in if need be!!! Where we hunt you can wade out from shore for about 600 yards. It is a hard sand bottom, lots of rocks to trip on!!

I got a cousin that hunts the area from shore over there, and he says he just sets up on a rock and pass shots em..
he took my brother and his boat out there (early goose season) last year and tryed to get him into the same area he hunts and he kept slamming into rocks under water..I wasnt there but I guess my brother was so pi_ _ ed off they didnt finnish the hunt..

If you don't know that area like the back of your hand you can eat a prop in a second!! I know it pretty well and my prop is still dinged up pretty good!!

Lake Erie tend to "lose water" when the November gales blow. If you get a West or Southwest wind at 15mph or better for a few hours it blows all the water over to Canada. I have seen it drop more than 6' in 3-4 hours.

We once shot a TV show for Cabela's out there. On the Wed. we were hunting in 6' of water out in front of Rat Island. That Friday I took my wife to show here how the water blows out. They were riding 4 wheelers where we had been hunting 2 days before!! That storm kept the water out for 4 days. Don't get caught out there if the winds stops. The water comes back in like gang busters!!

!!

No need to be scared. Come out and hunt with us sometime!! There is at least 200 years experience if you add up all of us and the numbers of years we have hunting and fished those waters. We can get you past your fears and show you the time of your life!! Shoot, Dick alone has been hunting out there for AT LEAST 50 years, fishing it longer than that. You would be in "Good Hands".

By the way, that drop in water when those storms blow is called a
"seiche"

Yeah, we might not be able to control the winds or the seas, BUT, we ALL know when it is time to "Get the hell out of Dodge" We always error on the safe side, often not hunting when we could just so we don't take any stupid chances.
