I'm looking at getting into driving a Expeditor truck. I have applied at a few companies and received some offers. Tri State sent me a letter saying that they would give you $5,000.00 towards a down payment or pay $1,000.00 a month towards your payment. I have have a friend that drives otr. He said that I would have to careful of these types of offers because he has seen were companies are associated with dealers and they get you into a truck and for the first year or two you get plenty of work and then the work slacks off and you are wondering how to pay your bills and you can't afford your truck payment or you house payment. He said you could end up losing everything. I just want to make sure that I'm making the right deceison and not a bag one. Thanks for all you help.

Would that contract be dependant on being with them for so many years? Sounds like it would be for the down payment, but not for the monthly.

Read what the contract says, then take it to a lawyer if it isn't clear. I would never sign a contract with an expediting company that said I had to lease for a certain length. I call it servitude.

And, yes... if they're trying to get you to buy a truck from a certain dealer, with rebates, such as Panther does with Fyda (am I right on that one?), then it's a fishy situation.

Yes they go thru fyda trucking also. They only sent me a news letter that came off this web site. I have decided to go with them yet. I'm not sure what there contract says. They didn't send anything in their information on how this deal works.

Thanks

The Hawk is correct. Big Question is how long are you locked into Tri State or for that matter any other company. If things don't work out can you leave and go else where. Also will Tri State require certain performance percentages from you.
Almost sound like you are a employee vs a so called independent contractor. My personal beliefs, nothing wrong with Tri State but arrange for you and only you to be the truck owner.

If they are stating you must remain with them for a period of time, that would move you to a employee status. You at that point fail to meet the requirements of a independent contractor.

Panther is only referring people to Fyda if they don't have a truck or are in the market for a new or used one. Bobby is a great guy to work with.
There is no change in the lease or relationship with Panther whether you buy from Fyda or anyone else.

I wasn't saying it alters the lease. Just that Fyda gives you "discounts" on trucks if you drive for Panther or Express-1 and, now I learned, Tri-state. I call it fishy cause their stuff is a bit on the high side to begin with.

Well my old Mother always told me if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. How long do you think any carrier will stay in business giving away $5000 or $1000 a month? There has to be a catch there somewhere. (Buyer Beware.)

Have your lawyer look over the contract and make sure you aren't signing your life away.

Been There Done That. I was on with Tri-State with a Cargo van for 14 months. Did pretty good, but always liked the bigger trucks. So I let them talk me into signing a lease for a Straight Truck. This was Alumi-Bunk. Later I found out that I wasn't the owner, and if I ever left Tri-State, the truck came back to them.

Well it didn't work out for me. The payments were a killer, and after 3 months of no income more than to take care of the payments and fee's at Tri-State, I was able to walk away not oweing anything. Wow was that a relief. Not all contracts are the same. Be very careful what you sign. I was Lucky.

If all they are saying is we will pay $5,000 up to five months than great. Express One offered this last year and Boy is that Tempting. No further strings or anything from what I recalled so if want a credit to your payments go for it if all else meets your requirments.

Look at the total picture not just what six months of revenue vs expenses are. I had to look at a two to three year picture in choosing C&M I believe they were a better fit for me but Express One was a Class Orginization even though I knew of two people who had left them. It has worked well for me and Business Sense paid off but it could have just as well worked at E-1 also.

If your happy with what you see and read and you are not locked in than by all means do it. This is exactly why I did not choose the financing at FECC it was lock tight contract that stated as I recall I could not switch carriers thats a BIG NO NO and should I have I would have had to of declared Bankrupty cause there was no profit I could have paid all of the expenses but for who, the owner trying to make a honest profit. No I want a honest big profit not to just own a truck. List more details and we might be able to help you further.

Hey,

Thanks everyone for your responses and input. My biggest cocern is picking the right company that I can make a good living with. I don't want to get in with a company and not be able to pay for my truck or my house and loose everything in the process. It is a hard decesion to make when you do research and see well this company finanaced my truck and I made no money and it got repoed. I have a guy that I work with who was a truck driver for 20 yrs that wants to go in with me. I just want to make sure I make the right decesion for my family and my team driver.

Thanks

dcrone336,
Glad you are interested in the program. Simply put, Tri-
State needs teams and will pay to get them. Bobby from FYDA was the guy who came up with the idea, so we went with it. We will pay $1,000/mo to the finance company to go towards your truck payment. It definitely helps ease the burden of getting into the business and puts more money in your pocket. We feel that $1,000/mo is not that much of a burden for us to pay out considering the help we get by utilizing team equipment. Hope this also helps.
