DD, could you name any specific part of that truck that didn't have issues? I seem to remember it having a killer a/c system?

They may call a DT530 a class 8 engine and they may put them in their class 8 trucks. My opinion is that they will not go the distance that any other brand of engine will. They are good for day cabs and local use, but I wouldn't want to OTR with one.
Having an International is alright, but an International with an International engine is another matter.

I don't recall having any issues with the floormats, they were okay. And yes it did have a killer a/c, it would kill your bank account.

Doggie Daddy (and I AM old enough to know who Doggie Daddy was!!),

Thanks for the PM, advice (too late though) and the phone number.
We will be calling you (I'm Gary, wife is Michelle).
We are getting a 200,000 mile warranty with the truck (hope that eases your concerns for us some).
Thanks,
Gary

good luck you two, i hope you have no problems. a warranty is great but it wont cover lost revenue. does it cover parts and labor and what all does the warranty cover ? i hope you went through the warranty thoroughly !!!

Was it the dealer that called that engine a class 8, because I am here to tell you that it is not.

You didn't say how many miles or hours were on the engine, but those DT 530's are only expected to have a life of 500k.

We had a DT 530 in our last truck that we bought new, we traded it in at 470k, and it was getting pretty tired. We have some friends that just replaced their DT 530 at 650k.

Please don't tell me that this truck is a Alumijunk. Maybe you can claim temporary insanity and get out of this truck deal.

The DT530 is not a class 8 engine. I had the exact same truck and it only lasted 275k. Expensive to maintain, issues it's entire life. Last issue, oil in the coolant, was never resolved. International dealer had it for two months and washed their hands of it and told me never bring it back. I scrapped it and wrote it off.

I agree with DD, get out of this deal if you can.

I have a 2007 hino 338, with over 700k miles on it. As much as people crack on thse trucks, mine has been pretty good.

Remember, the more you know about working on vehicals the less issues you will have.

I purchased my truck NEW, and if I could do "IT" over again. I would not buy an "Automatic", for 2 reasons Fuel Milage is worse and the sceduled maintenance is a killer.

If I were to buy a class 8 truck, I would pay most attention to the gearing as you're biggest expense is fuel. This is were the class 8's have it over the the 7's, most of the class 7 owners I talk to claim fuel mileage in the 9's, that is where I am. I know a couple of class 8 drivers with MPGs in the low teens, I have heard 12 to 14 pretty regular. So over 100k miles a year this can be a 15 to 20k difference in profiability.

Now you have to make sure you're truck is geared right to get it. This isn't so much "Brand" specific as it is "Spec Speciffic", so in general a class 8 built to haul 80k is like deadhead when you put 33k on the drive train, hence the better fuel mileage.

Nice thing abbout the DT & HT engines is theyre decent on fuel a working eingine and fairly easy to wrench if you have the tools and know what youre doing. I have a DT 466e in my rig basicly the same theyre good motors but you wont win a drag race.

Piece of advice, Keep the filters fresh fuel at arround 25,000-30,000 miles change the oil at 12,000, 14,000 If running Dino oil. Ive found no difference betwene Dino and synthetic other than drain intervals. you still have to swap the filters every 12,- 14,000 miles to protect the motor properly why run dirty oil through a clean filter.
KEEP IT LUBED I found Castrol Pyroplex blue is top noch second place and almost as good is mystix high temp in the red tube dont waste money on the junk they sell at walmart unless its mystix sometimes you can find it there. Lube the truck

ALOS if you have 250,000 or more a transmision fluid and SPIN ON filter change is due.
Better yet have the dealer pony up some cash and have him send it to an Allison dealership. Dont waste money on a flush unless your allison dealership recomends it this could ruin a working transmission and use only allison filters and Trans Synd fluid for allison transmisions. its a good Idea to keep an extra gallon of trans fluid and an extra trans filter as well as an extra fuel filter and tool box with the basic hand tools. on the truck just in case.
Feel free to private message me if you have any questions.
Good Luck.
