It's still very early in the investigation, but authorities are suggesting the 28 year-old co-pilot deliberately crashed the plane into a mountainside, killing all 150 people on board. How does this happen? Surely, there must have been red flags indicating severe problems in the young pilot's personal life.

So, we learn the young pilot had a doctor's note excusing him from work on the day he crashed the plane. Actually, the doctor declared the pilot as "unfit for work." Having been treated for depression in the past, young Andreas Lubitz still was granted a commercial pilot license and gained employment with Germanwings. What are the chances something other than depression led to this mass killing of 150 people? What kind of inner rage prompted Lubitz to kill?

Regular ol' depression is capable of doing that.

Narcissism in the Age of Selfies might have played a role. Lubitz is reported as telling his one-time girlfriend he would someday do a spectacular act and everyone would know his name.

I wouldn't blame it on anything other than a mental illness.

Agree with the guy [assuming here, lol] whose username indicates little narcissism: we don't understand enough about mental illness to know what to expect from the afflicted. Delusions of grandeur don't necessarily involve harming others, sometimes, they're just innocent fantasies.
