General Question Regarding Rates

Just got to looking at that 10 year old "Unicell" Thread...........

Noticed they were talking about "C" Rates back then........

Reading this board for 12-13 years as I have been.......You guys don't talk about "C" Rates much anymore as you guys used to years and years ago.

Main discussions today cover:

Cargo Van "B" Rates....

Sprinter Rates.......

D & E Rates.......

Do the Expedite Companies out there offer "C" Rates at all anymore......or do they just refer to the C Rate as "Sprinter" Rates nowadays?

And......If there still is a C Rate out there.......what's the Pay Difference between that (C Rate) compared to B - Cargo Van & D - Straight Truck Rates?

Those classifications are all over the chart now...sprinter rate could be construed now as a C rate while a C rate was I believe a small straight and yet there is still the D rate of a large or heavy straight....some will negotiate a better rate for a heavy straight then a large straight...
Just for the record....a sprinter is just a big CV....nothing more....they carry CV loads for CV rates....BUT some owners won't run a CV load for CV rate, claiming sprinter status....kinda like a large straight won't run at a small straight price....quite honestly there is no real conformity...

my thoughts are as long as it pays MY rate, they can call it air fare if they want.....makes no difference to me....

Then there is the old A rate.....Car or minivan.....

Those lettered designations are a FedEx thing, anyway. Most other carriers classify them very differently. For example, a "B" Unit at FedEx is a "C" Unit at Panther. Panther makes no distinction between a cargo van and a Sprinter. As with OVM, I don't concern myself about letters, only dollars.

you been around long enough to know exactly what I meant....gee whiz

I have a rate in my mind that must be met....a high and a low and anywhere in between....so in a way I do set my own rate, they ask me what I need to run a load and I give them a number and they bid accordingly....

Why are people talking about rates? We actually had a carrier on here that said it was really about the miles? I'm so confused. :eek:

Why do Sprinters sign on with Panther? What is the incentive when so many other companies pay xtra for Sprinter? Do they offer bonuses when you take a run that a regular c/v cant take? :confused:

So they can have big sleeper areas. If I was there I would have eight feet of cargo space the rest would be mine.

The bonus is.....going to the top of the list...if a 3 skid ops is available they will offer it to you and you jump the other guys and get out...hence in the carriers thinking is that you are making more money....that is your bonus....

You are going to have to take out the hot tub to have room for 3 skids.
