gas van operators, operating cpm

For those of you running gas vans, what is your operating cost per mile not including fuel? By that I mean van costs such as repair, maintenance, tires, etc. but not insurance, QC etc. Just the actual expense to keep the van moving down the road. Thanks.

Every van O/O will have different figures due to different sources of supply, and styles of outfitting and operating their van and their business.

My business, less meals only, costs 42 cents per mile. I base this on van and outfitting purchase cost, finance charges, a forecast 5 years of use at 100,000 miles per year, and an estimated $2000 scrap value after 5 years.

I also include variable expenses such as the occasional hotel room, showers, office and truck supplies, insurance, carrier chargebacks, telephone, tolls, fuel, repairs, laundry, truck wash and parking at MATS.

Yes, I expect to get varied answers however what I'm looking for is the base operating expense of the van minus fuel and any hotel, phone etc. expenses.

I know I gave you more than you were asking for, but your question is rather vague for anyone to give you an answer you'd likely find useful. Are you thinking of a $15,000 bare bones chevy or a $40,000 Sprinter? Used without warranty or new with warranty? Extended warranty?

I'm not sure between new or used. Ideally I'd like numbers from someone who ran a new van it's entire useful lifespan of 400k miles or so and knows over that lifespan the cost of maint (routine like oil changes etc. plus tires and other consumables) and repairs (oops something broke) was xx cpm.

Terry would be the expert on that. I think he ran his last Chevy Ext well over 500,000 miles.
