FYI Re%3A Panther%22 Ad on this site No CDL Requi

Just spoke with a Recuriter with Panther about hiring on as driver. I inquired about the ad placed on E.O. site saying No CDL is required. He in turn told me that the ad was put in place for Owner/Operators with their own van to be hired on with Panther.

He further informed me that Panther still requires you to have a CDL in order for them to hire you on as a driver.

I am a Newbie to this industry and since posting two questions as to what, where, how I should go. Someone mentioned the Panther ad in their post as a start to getting into this business.

I had contacted Panther before posting in this forum. I was under the impression then that I would need a CDL Class C with HAZMAT endorsement which is not a problem.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my request for help.

This is just a FYI for everyone here especially us Newbies who are looking forward to getting into this industry.

In a way the ad is misleading to a Newbie, I for one thought this would be a perfect opp for me to get started.(they need to placed that bit of info in fine print somewhere in that ad). Just imagine how disappointed I was when I talked with a recuriter with Panter and was informed of that little bit of information just when I thought I had found the perfect job opening.

SO TO ALL THE NEWBIES PLEASE CALL AND ASK FOR MORE INFO.

By the way is there an O/O out there looking for a driver with no experience but willing to learn, never been OTR but is willing to do the 48 and Canada.

Still looking to get in :)

Sorry, I don't see the difference whether it is a driver or an owner, the ad clearly states no CDL required. Actually I don't understand the difference anyway, an owner that drives is a driver, right?

Maybe it should say Van Owners no CDL required.

I think from my point of view, as limited as it is, the ad should be changed or Panther should be clear about it in print somewhere.

Greg, you have cats. Have you ever gotten a straight answer from one of them?

Maybe the recruiter was new and didn't know the difference between a van and a straight truck.

I also think there must be some confusion somewhere. There is no difference between the owner of the van driving it with no CDL and the owner hiring a driver to drive it with no CDL. At one point I believe they would not hire anyone without one. I believe now they will, whether van or truck. You should try to talk to another recruiter for verification.

Talk to some other companies........Panther isn't the only one, you know, although they'd like you to think they are........shop around, you'll find the "fit" your looking for.....
My suggestion? Give Tri-State a call, their up front with no surprises....

It's interesting that Panther's No CDL Required ad is contradicted in it's recruiting web site which states, in part, the following:

Owners must have:
Valid CDL

Let's hope a voice of authority with clear up the confusion.

I called Panther today and was on hold for a while, no big deal I know I heard on the "on hold" talk. It DOES say no cdl required for van or straight truck, then it suggests getting your wife to drive with you and help getting her cdl. I know what I heard and will find out tomarrow when I call them back, I have a cdl but if they say they require it, I will call them on it.
