I flew into Dallas and a driver I had never met picked me up. ( let the jokes begin.)
We were "lucky" enough to sit in Dallas 5 days before the crackerhead co-driver found a load he liked.
In those 5 days I learned the things you learn in orientation and was able to analyze the load offers enough to decide to put my first expeditor truck together.
I never look forward to Dallas, but I've been worse places.

Isn't expediting just the craziest? You get so pumped up in orientation, so ready to hit the ground running, show what you can do, run the wheels off the truck, and then, you sit, and wait, and wait, and wait some more, sigh.
Welcome! And you're smart not to get discouraged, because it will happen, and you will be on your way, and you won't have time to look back.
Until the next layover, lol. ;)

RugBug61, congats on your new adventure. When I was a surface "D" unit and was sitting allot (including Dallas) I added a pallet jack and got a load that same day. The small investment paid off greatly then and still does now...didn't need a lift gate. The loads were NAJ (non adjacent)...I docked and used the pallet jack for the pick-up and or delivery. Equip yourself wisely....

That is absolutely true the more you can offer the more they can offer.

Also get your hazmat if you don't have it and get IAC qualified. Best of luck.

what is IAC qualified?

IAC is short for Immediate Arctic Cargo, this qualification tells dispatch that you are ready and willing to take loads into Canada.

OK, I'm Joking !!

It really stands for Indirect Air Carrier or as it is now known " TSA". These loads originate or terminate from airports mostly and require special protocol and procedures

You will have to take an online assessment knowledge test, very easy, common sense, the qualification is worth having.

Best of luck, and welcome aboard.

Thanks for welcoming..
I knew the layovers would be a part of exped life so not to be unexpected. I do carry a pallet jack and furniyre dolly and the truck is equiped with a lift gate. I will look into IAC as well, Im assuming Safety can get me in the right direction for IAC??

If you have hazmat you won't have any trouble getting IAC.

Good luck!
When I ran solo,I used to look forward to Friday, cause it was a chance to get a long run over the weekend, that can really make your week. It sure beats sitting for the weekend, and Mondays can be kinda slow, depending where your at. If I didn't get that weekend run,I had a policy of "take anything on Saturday " unless it was a real loser of course.

As a solo D I turned down an Il-Ca on Thursday. Didn't deliver until Monday so a team wasn't a necessity.

Yepper,I did the same thing once, about three days before Christmas. dispatch was desperate, so I agreed to do the P/U and transfer the load to another single,he was new, and was so happy to get that load,I wonder if he is still there? LOL
