fuel surcharge LOL

Today I called in to hear the FECC recorded call of the week.
I was pretty amused to know the 9 cent fuel surcharge is there for me. Especially, in light of the fact that everyone has dropped their shorts rate wise to begin with.

It made me smile for the first time in months.

Also I had a dream I rolled my truck off a snow covered mountain and walked away unhurt. Though the truck was a total loss.

Now you know what they meant when the recuriters said you could achieve your dreams as an expediter. :)

The fuel surcharge was meant to get the price of fuel down to $1.25 a gallon and so with the cost of fuel so cheap no fuel surcharge. The $1.25 is a goofy number and needs to be raised to a more realistic figure.

We sure made a lot more money though when fuel was $5.00 a gallon.

Now there's an interesting thought to ponder.

We too made more money when fuel was $5.00 a gallon. There was more freight to haul and more money went to our bottom line. How ironic is that?

Back when fuel prices were outrageous, there was (lots of) discussion from people who were on a fixed fsc vs people who were not. I'm not sure how that 'fixed' fsc worked.. was it a contract with one fixed rate? Or did it change every week/month? If it was one fixed rate, what happened to those contracts once fuel came down? ie did they need a new contract again?
I tried searching.. I really did..

Pjjjjj, With the great Two Headed Cat we adjusted weekly based on D.O.E national average with the surcharge covering all but $1.20 per gallon based on 9 MPG for S/T. (ex: ($4.85 - $1.20 = $3.65) / 9 = .40 fsc. I got 11 MPG so it was quite profitable. It was set up as a per truck opt in/out I bailed when fuel dropped below $3.50 as customer surcharges where still in the .30-.40 range ;)

I've noticed the FSC we have been getting on loads actually cover appoximately one half the fuel need to deliver the loaded miles given. When calculating to get the percentage I use only the loaded miles given.

From what I heard, don't quote me on it, when fuel reaches $1.40, there will be no more fsc unless the customer is willing to pay something for it. But, who would want to if they didn't have to?

Do you really think it is going to hit $1.40?
