The Speedway at the Angola exit would not let me go tax exempt...he knew the law....grrrrrr they do ask for IFTA..well at least that clerk did...

Interesting, never had a problem at the Angola Speedway and have been there many times, and why does the clerk really care LOL, but a straight is more convincing as a commercial vehicle then a Sprinter. Maybe it was the Canadian flag you have on it ;)

So now Dakota Not only have you been running with no insurance...you are admitting to tax evasion....such a criminal enterprise you are...;)

I used to be a fuel desk manager on the IN tollroad. If fueling at the tax exempt pumps without an IFTA or MC number there was $.05 added on per gallon. One driver, who did have an IFTA, always paid the additional nickel. That way he had proof that he'd paid the taxed price and Indiana couldn't charge him the $.11 fuel tax.

I know IFTA is a whole other topic, but here's a question. I know you pay the IFTA based on each state's miles run, but what about the "duty-free" fuel at the Can/US border? Panther figures my IFTA so isn't it either pay the tax now or pay later when figuring each state's/providence's miles run? Is there a benefit to buying at the border other then not paying the tax upfront?

The benefit is buying where your net cost is lowest. Sometimes that's buying the most expensive fuel because it includes a very high fuel tax. If you get say a .43c per gallon fuel tax credit on a 200 gallon purchase and you burn 40 gallons in that state then drive into a 20c per gallon state and burn 40 more gallons you've just made $9.20 on your IFTA balance. Drive through more lower tax states and you build more credit balance. If you wind up back in the .43c state again and refill there again you just increase your credits. There's a detailed report on it in the newbies section.
