fuel prices

Something to think about.FDCC,Panther,Tristate, and the other companies that get the large discount at the TA truck stops,if everyone would only buy fuel at the TA,don't you think the other truck stops would have to follow suit and lower their prices. It be like the price wars of the 80's

I usually avoid the name brand truck stops because their prices are higher then the independents. Probably has something to do with alot of large companies who get the fuel discounts.

The joy ride might be over sooner then later...TA is losing money hand over fist according to the latest financial report...

The discount is killing them...lost something like 10 million on fuel profits alone...

from press release...
Total fuel sales reached $1.19 billion, compared to from $704 million in first quarter of 2009. Fuel gross margin dollars, however, were $50.2 million, compared to $60.46 million the year before.

the discounts boosted sales but hurt the bottomline...

You notice the prices drop 10-20 cents a gallon once you get 10 miles off the interstate system....the TS are playing to a captive audience...I use Speedway, Exxon or BP...better quality fuel anyways for the most part..

OVM is right, they have been bleeding for quite a while and that will only go on for so long.

Their in store sales haven't increased like expected, they actually dropped just a bit...if the discounts were to lure drivers to fuel up and then buy something, the strategy hasn't worked.

The discounts will be cut back to compensate I would imagine.

I know some independents are not participating any longer. I think you will see that trend continue.

If the in store sales aren't making a profit as planned then the discount is useless...20-25 cents is absurd for a corporation to hand out when they are losing that much...those shareholders should be screaming...

No one likes the price of fuel /gas as it goes up, but it is simply a cost of doing business....

Obviously corporate had a plan to increase market share, but it isn't working out...

It would be like John taking loads 10% below cost to try and gain customers/marketshare and they don't pan out...they just take the 10% ..how long could he sustain this activity?

Yes, for the most part tractor trailers are stuck buying fuel at these places. Even though it may be more of a pain to fuel one tank and turn around and fill the other, most stations are accesible to a straight truck. I use Speedway/belong to the rewards program, the local Lassus Handy Dandy has a reward program also. and while on the highway I look for the Wal-mart/Murphy oil stations. I also shop prices while out on my route and if I am at half tank or below will stop if the price is low enough. Lately I have been paying 2.72 to 2.84 for diesel in Ohio

Why would I go in and pay a buck fifty to a buck seventy five for a bottle of soda or water, I buy a 24 pack of water at walgreens for 3.99 or less sometimes and stick a couple in my cooler, and if I feel like a soda, which I am trying to cut back on I usually get the ones on sale, ninety nine cents usually I like all soda so doesn't matter brand or type. Same with food the truck stops really have inflated food prices. Wal-mart has the quick to go food section that really gives you better value.
In short I rarely buy stuff at the filling station, since their markup is so high.

Just looked at the J website Ohio ranges from 2.97 to 3.08 quite the savings there ole boy..since you don't need the shower credits..

as to Speedway...17,000 points gets you a 25$ cash card...with a truck filling the points would add up quickly...even more savings..

Gonna have to checkout speedway more I used to rack up the points filling up the straight trucks at the last company I ran for. Back then 66,000 points would get you $100 cash card and I earned quite a few of those :D plus their prices are pretty competitive. I pass the Beaverdam,Oh Speedway truckstop daily

LOL, yes I use the Ceva DOT number(actually I use the MC number it is shorter and I have it memorized) Don't know the difference between the MC and DOT, both numbers are on my door. I am under 26K so no IFTA required
I think technically exempt diesel is only for trucks with IFTA, but honestly they will sell it to anyone, even when I had a personal diesel van I could buy it. Just don't buy the dyed offroad diesel LOL
