Here is a fact..Did you know the oil companies make $.10 on a gallon of gas ....They have billions of dollars because of it. Did you know that the combination of the Federal local and state governments ..make $.50 on every gallon... the government are bigger theives than big oil. I think we need to tax the gvernment and get back the money they have stole. If iwant the government to force me to pay for nothing in return I would go to Canada.

You might be mistaken the oil/fuel companies make more since they refinne the gas, make the deisel, charge for freight, the 10 cents you are talking about is the service stations not own by the big oil company, for example it is a know fact a company size of Speedway can raise the price a nickle and in one day make 1/2 millions of just that. When we own a station back in the 70's we made 10 cents, talk to a local here they make about 17 cents from their distruibtor but before wages, electrictity ect.

With more fuel efficient vehicles fuel taxes aren't enough . More toll roads are on the way .

since i only drive my car 6000 miles a year, gas prices dont hurt me that much, not like the economy, and as far as fuel prices, with our fsc,my 7+mpg,im averaging $.67/gal for fuel, just let the prices go up,its supply and demand,as long as the 4 wheelers drive like gas is free, the price of gas will go up,and if the price of fuel ever drops, the gov. will add another tax,as has happened before

Rob:

As I understand it, purchases in Canada are charged a 6% GST on top of any local or regional sales taxes that are usually in the 6-7% range. Other than consumables such as hotels, food or fuel, we Yanks could get a GST refund by making application at the border. I think that that capability went by the wayside earlier this year.

Are you claiming your GST windfall because Owner/Operators of Canadian companies are exempt from the GST for truck and fuel purchases? Are USA Owner/operators equally elligible for fuel purchases that include the GST?

We certainly pay enough road use and State sales and Federal taxes on our truck and fuel purchases, but at least our Gov't doesn't take an additional 6% (formerly 7%) just to give it back later. I think it's great that you and OVM et al are getting a break but you can't possibly compare the USA's complex tax strucure to Canada's complex tax structure. You can't even easily compare the after tax cost of fuel. You pay between $.10 - $.15 USD more per liter for diesel fuel, but what does that mean at the end of the tax year?
