Lo all larry's post reminded me of things rusting.... and about a month ago i was traveling down I-287 in Jersey when my cab suddenly became the haven of a dense and heavy smell of diesel fuel after a long search of the problem at 3 in the morning i finally found out that my fuel line had rusted right at the engine block and it emptied out my full tank of fuel and Under it's pressure had widened the already rusted hole nevertheless the next day when i brought it to Freightliner the guy told me that this was a common problem on these engines..so i thought i'd pass the word along to all those 3126 owners..... :):):) Obviosuly we cant forsee all future problems but at least by leting you all know and helping one another we may be able to prevent a little....:) thnx

While you are checking out the fuel lines for leaks, you might also want to keep an eye on the fuel tanks. Those steel fuel tanks can begin to develop leaks, especially in the seams. It is a good idea when you are doing your daily pretrip to look at the tanks and also on the ground around the tanks.

If anyone is running a Freightliner Century or Columbia with Detroit S60 should look for fuel line leaks on the line from the rear fuel filter up to the engine. There was a service bulletin issued on this, and is is caused by the line vibrating, starts slow and grows big- just happened to me. Brought truck into shop to get it fixed, no problem, it doesn't effect the way it runs. Then Schneider-man backed into my truck at the shop, and took the hood off of it. Now I get a week of unwanted vacation :(

Darn Weave: One week of unscheduled and unpaid vacation!! Well, there are a few nice trout streams there in Western PA.

Take care of that truck. I may want to look it over when you get ready to sell.

Drive Safe. Larry

One of the good things about FEDX CC insurance issued by Protective Insurance is that you get down time coverage for accident repairs. This coverage begins when the truck is brought into the repair shop and for a D unit pays $150.00 per day until the truck is ready to roll again.I think there is a $4,000 limit. In February I had a minor fender bender in Baltimore and as a result had a good sized hole in the front of the box on the drivers side.It took 19 days to get panels in from Morgan,so do the math. Not too bad to be off the road in February getting a paid vacation. No problem getting the money, they paid within a week of me getting the truck back. Once in a while you win one.

That's OK, I'm just taking vacation now instead of July. Schneider-Man is paying for the repair out of his pocket, (doesn't want to loose his job) but the bill will be under my name so I'll just use it as a write off to take care of the down time. 1 front fender, headlight assembly, bumper, and misc parts and labor= $5000- no kidding! I've been working on restoring an old motorcycle I have to pass the time :)
