Freedom? What Constitution?

There must be a bit more to this story than reported. If you watched the video with this story, there were multiple weapons being carried, and displayed.

Me thinks it was more a case of him being cantankerious with the police.

There is usually always more to any story...Rights group only report what is relevant or seems relevant to them...

First off, it was not a 'rights group' who reported this. It was a Fox news story. Second, he has the right to carry (bear) Third, I said that the the law was such when I lived there between 1976-82 and may have been amended. Forth, being afraid of law abiding citizens exercising their rights is strange. I would be afraid of criminals or governments LONG before anyone who is just doing what is legal. People are just paranoid about guns. They ASSUME that a gun and it's owner are bad. So much for the Second Amendment and innocence before guilt.

In my Dad's day he hunted his way to school. Put his game in the spring house to keep it cool. Stored his shotgun and hunting knife in his school locker, then hunted his way home. I took my gun to school all the time. Kept it in the car, went hunting after school. If I did that today I would be expelled.

The more ANY government restricts ANYTHING the less free people are. That is a FACT of life.

Not national Fox news, it was Fox News Detroit.

The fact is, no matter what people think, it is 100% legal to carry a non-concealed firearm. We DO have that RIGHT. Why is it that people are afraid of their RIGHTS? Why are so many willing, not only to give them up, but FORCE others to do the same?

Don't you think the cops are justified in asking him...Hey Bud...whats up?

That video was shot at a rally of gun owners, NOT the day when he was arrested for carrying a legal firearm in a legal way. And NO the cops are NOT justified in questioning someone who is doing nothing illegal. Carrying (bearing) arms is RIGHT in this country. The police have NO right to question that. That is what freedom is. The RIGHT to exercise ones RIGHTS as they see fit.

Your 'feelings' of insecurity are your problem. I assume that you believe that everyone who carries a gun, as is legal, is a nut? Besides, the person in question was not carrying an AK-47. He was carrying an M1. Besides, what difference does the type of gun a person carries makes? Would you feel safer if the gun was a Remington 742? What about my Benelli?

The fact that I carry a gun in public has no bearing on your happiness. The fact that a criminal might SHOULD be what you fear. IMHO of course.

Legal adults are not the enemy.

How many LEGAL gun owners are the problem? Has ANY gun control law EVER stopped a criminal from getting and using a gun to commit a crime?

Never heard of a right to "feel" secure, if it existed then we would have openly prejudice things going on like whites only apartments or neighborhoods. No one is stopping your pursuit of happiness by owning or carrying a gun, if it is pointed at you and they ask for your wallet, that would be an issue.

SO, the U.S. Constitution does not matter in Detroit? Why not? Should only the police carry? IF they question LEGAL people will the criminals NEVER attack anyone again? Please explain how an adult, 18 has reached the age of majority in this country, breaking NO law, should be subject to police interference, questioning or arrest? What about 18 years old adults driving. Far more people are killed every year by 18 year old adults driving drunk than are killed by those who carry a gun. Are we there for allowed to stop and question them? Can I challenge the police about their carry practices? They are my EMPLOYEE, what give them the right to stop me from doing as I please?

Why are so many afraid of freedom?

Gang members HIDE what they are doing, for the most part. NO law or curtailment of the Constitution will deter crime. It will just cause even more. Should the honest citizen not have the RIGHT, which we do, to defend ourselves from the gangs, and the government? Can the police guaranty my safety, from the gangs, 100% of the time in 100% of the places I visit? Can they protect me from ANY kind of crime 100% of the time? NOPE. There for, I will. I will NOT be questioned or stopped from doing so.

RESPONSIBLE ownership had nothing to do with freedom.....I see nothing wrong with police at least saying "hey Buddy whats up?" IF the situation calls for it....such an innocent question.....

No different that the police coming up to you, for no reason, and asking to 'see your papers'.

How is carrying a weapon, not responsible? The person in question was charged with crimes. That is beyond questions. ANOTHER person, in the People's Republic of Michigan, was arrested for 'disturbing the piece' for carrying a handgun open. That was thrown out of court.

The fact is, NO law was broken, except by the police. Interfering with a person's civil rights IS a crime. Carrying a gun is not.
