It would seem that, assuming this story is correct, that parents no longer have the right to raise their children as they seem fit. The crime? Allowing their kids to walk to the park, alone. Geez, we were everywhere, alone, when we grew up. There should be more kids out, running around, without parents hovering over them. There should also be parents, "watching", like ours did, from every house in the neighborhood, at all times.

I'm not a fan of Child Protective Services at all. It's just another government agency that needs to increase business to stay in business, where the government throws money at a problem and instead of solving the problem we simply get more of the problem. And aside from that, as a parent you should be able to raise your children any way you want. Period.

Imagine, the crime of allowing you kids to be kids requires a response of 6 police cars and, when real crimes are being committed, it can take hours to get a response.

My mom tells a story about when l was 3 years old with no siblings. We were adding an addition to our house and we had dug an 8ft deep hole in the ground for the basement part of the addition. My mom had to run out to the store, so she lowered me into the hole with some Tonka trucks so she could go shop; which she did, as l happily played "trucks". She cringes today when l bring it up and says now a days she would be sent to prison and they would throw away the keys. Back n the early sixties it was probably the norm; maybe...
