Fountain pens

Recently I've acquired a few Esterbrook fountain pens. As a kid I periodically experimented with the Shaeffer student cheapo fountain pens. They typically performed adequately but with somewhat messy results. These pens are nice in that you have a choice of several dozen nibs that are user interchangeable. The mood of the pen can be greatly changed by swapping nibs as well as swapping ink colors. So far this is a fun pursuit.

That would make me almost want to write real letters again instead of typing an email. Wow...what a fun thing!

You won't have problems with friends and family ,

It really has been fun learning more about them and experimenting with papers and inks. I am writing a little more than I used to although I haven't gotten to the letter writing stage yet.

Leo you never mentioned colors! I cannot wait to try one and I wonder what color it will be?

You might want to check out this site for ideas. They aren't the most economical in all cases but have a wide variety of products and information. If you want to talk more about it drop me a PM and I'll email you a few more sites.

Levenger - Lap Desks, Totes, Business Card Holders, Leather Briefcases, Fountain Pens, Portfolios, Wallets, Desk Accessories, Organizers, Journal

Very pretty inks and pens...and very pricey. I do believe OVM would take away my checkbook if I spent $60 on a pen though...*l*

There are good pens available for much less than that. The Lamy Safari lists for half that and many sources discount them some so it's probably a $25 pen. Lamy USA - Lamy Fountain Pens - Lamy Safari Fountain Pen

For ink color options take a look at Private Reserve Ink

There's also sampling available through Fountain Pen Ink Samples that gets 4 tiny bottles of ink sample. They have numerous choices including the PR (Private Reserve) inks. Each small bottle is enough ink for about 1/2 a pen fill but it's plenty to see what the color looks like and whether you like it with your pen or not.

Lastly The Fountain Pen Network (Powered by Invision Power Board) is to fountain pens what EO is to expediting.

In last Sunday's Washington Post, there was an article about "The Pen Doctor", Richard Binder, you might enjoy. I don't how to do links.

Richard has an informative website at RichardsPens.com • Fountain Pens by Richard Binder and sells pens as well as providing information and links. He checks and if necessary tunes the nib of every pen he sells to be sure it writes exactly as it should when it's received by the user. Using a fountain pen takes adapting from the user. Writing with one is different than writing with a ballpen. Whereas the ballpen must be pressed to the paper the fountain pen should be held very lightly and should be glided over the paper with no pressure applied. Anyway, I'm sure the article about Richard was interesting and probably was in conjuction with the D.C. pen show that I believe was last weekend.
