You do realize that your comment above is off-topic, political crap, right?

Again, I just thought this would be informative to those who haul a lot of auto parts. Let the bs fly, Im sure there are many intelligent EO readers who can, and do filter through the BS. :)

Just be thankful, "Chancemaster", that you're lucky enough to be in the truck you presently drive to have little, if any, contact with the 'Big 3'.

With other carriers you might have had the dubious distinction of frequently meeting the most rude, insolent, arrogant and disorganized shipping and receiving personnel in North America by doing business with American auto makers. I cannot remember, ever, having one experience I would consider good when loading or unloading at those facilities.

I have driven Ford products exclusively for the last 40+ years, but swore, after having been treated like vermin every time I drove through one of their gates, I would never buy another vehicle produced by ANY of the Big 3.

Illogical?? Maybe, but that's the only way this vengeful person can ever hope to seek revenge against the union rats that treated drivers that way!

I've had many more positive than negative experiences at car plants. And I go to them a lot.

Good for you...but maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with the difference in our expectations of how a human being is supposed to be treated.

I was relieved to reach a point in my expediting career where I didn't need to undergo the indignities of dealing with union slugs.

By affiliating myself with the right carrier - and driving a truck qualified to carry more than commodity machined parts - I was able to disassociate myself from people that acted as if I were a third-world immigrant. Try it; you might see the change...

You're assuming that I don't mind being treated poorly, and that's not the case. I stated that I've had very few attitude problems at car plants. no more than anywhere else. Try looking from within, you might also see a change.

I've had a few good experiences at Claycomo and another at Monroe, but they're the exception to the rule. Ftmp, auto plants workers are precisely as you describe. It shouldn't be the case that the good experiences are so few and far between that they stand out in my mind.

You missed the whole point.

I fed THEM by buying about 35 Ford vehicles of all sorts during that 40+ years Ford and the other U.S. companies were trying to overcome their ineptitude (lousiness) while trying to recapture market share.

I did my best to be a "patriotic" consumer by staying loyal to domestic manufacturers even when everyone knew that union 'interference' was contributing to lowered standards of quality. Don't tell me it didn't happen, because two stints in the UAW exposed me to behavior that would have had workers fired in any other situation. I saw products leaving my lines that never should have made it to a showroom!

My point was that I don't need OR want to go near those places again. If you're somehow satisfied dealing with riff-raff who seem to take great delight in throwing around what little power they have, go for it! I simply get greater satisfaction in working with shipping and receiving departments that seem to appreciate what I do.

Generally over my 12 years...I've found them getting softer....the old farts/hard core are retiring or taking the buyouts the last few years....it is just a job and not everyone is in a good mood all the time....and last time I looked it is not a job requirement to be nice...at least for them...

That said..Wolverine it is good you found a way around your irritant...Good luck..

I'm happy for you your experience(s) have been so different than mine. As I told someone else a few minutes ago: If you are pleased dealing with that type of environment, don't change a thing! It must be working for you.

As far as looking inward is concerned, yes, I'd have to say I have character flaws in the form of having too much ego and high self-esteem. However, having been on business for a long time, I've learned to approach everyone with respect for them AND their jobs. I try to leave every situation with the feeling I've done a good job of representing the company advertised on the box of my truck.

Funny, but I still feel the respect I mentioned is reciprocated less at the Big 3 than anywhere else...

I guess you just take it more personal....it is just a job...period... like driving a taxi..one fare you can have bikers, the next a little ole lady and the next a lawyer or CEO...and to serve them customers you have to be flexible to do the job....yes there are miserable people and less then desirables out there.., I try not to make it personal...a grumpy persons money spends as well as a nice guys...$$$$

I've never been treated poorly by them either and I've hauled for alot of them too. Hell I have stood and carried on conversations with many of the guy unloading too and even been personally asked to take a walk and tour the plants.

Maybe you just wear your feelings on your sleeves wolverine I don't know. Just saying I never experienced anything like you describe.

I had nuckleheads a couple times but it is extremely rare. No more than shopping somewhere or filling up at the truck pumps. To never have a good experience? I would have to question who had the attitude first.
