A lot of automotive skids are 50 inches if you can leave a few extra inches of cargo space I would. Call Brian in recruiting and get on the wait list.

Yeah, I had a tight ride out of Dayton a few weeks ago. Posted as 3 @ 48x48x40.
NOT. A
3 @ 50x50x40.
Let's just say I'm GLAD I didn't eat breakfast that morning!!!!

Glad the forklift driver (hi-lo for you MI peeps) drove away. Had to ratchet my door. Still lacked a few inches. But at least the doors pointed AT each other. Short load helped immensely.

You need to do like BMT. But a trailer cone that pivots up in place of rear doors. Give yourself 12" of extra cargo space.
If you can make rear of van more rigid.

Oh, what I could do with 12"!!!!
Actually that would be somewhat of a curse.

But yes, another foot of cargo space on my van would be handy on rare occasion. As long as it was light. I don't know BMT. On here, I assume? Need pics.

Bavarian Motor Transport. The curtainside car haulers. They use those fiberglass nose cones, not for aerodynamics as designed, but to get extra cargo room on 53' trailers. Then they put them on the Truck-Trailer combo's also.

I tell dispatch I have 150 inches available but have about a foot more for those shippers that are size challenged.

Yeah? It's scary how often loads are more than a little bigger than advertised. My "one skid" to Morristown turned out to be 2 skids holding 4 robots that REQUIRED long straps. They even bagged them to cut down on wobble.
And I had a 2 @ 48x45x45 the other day that was actually HUGE and required an oversize str8 or semi.

Yup. Going to report 128" (3 skids) but it's actually 135 to back seat. Never want to show up and have to kick my brain back into remain calm mode. ;)

I don't think 125" will cut it as a 3 skid van. I would think most carriers would require a minimum of 144" of floor space to be considered a 3 skidder.

Yup, that seems to be the standard. The beauty is, they only require 8 ft.....96" for cargo's. I placed the Etrac at 8 feet, with the remaining living quarter breakdown option for 3 skids at 40". Placed 2 Etrac anchor points right behind both seats.

It's not necessarily the skids I'm thinking about, it's those longer loads I don't want to miss that are non-skid, or small skid loads. Once hauled a wing flap from Chicago that was 162" long and the TerraMax was 160". Laid her in Annie Goglin/angled, and off we went.

Three skid loads are placed 48x40x40 and I can get them in there. Dispatch will figure this out as we go....meanwhile, I'll have to remain pretty sharp in asking specifics about loads. Far as dispatch goes.....I'm sittin at 128, not 135".

Don't have the same play as Xiggi....but the game remains the same.

Just for grin's, what size skids are they?

48 inch min as far as floor space goes 50 would be much better we haul a bunch of auto fright. Skids do vary but when someone says a 3 skid van general rule would be 48 inch skids.

I like mine ....144 long 73 wide 76 tall....have had 6 skids on 48 x45 x36 high ..double stacked.... of course anything wider than 52 or taller than 72 pays me small str 8 rate.....:D ..not bad for an apple cart.....lol
