For FedEx folks relocating changes

Now here is a twist for us. And before someone accuses me of whining I just want to say I am not whining but just informing others. If you have been sitting for some length of time and would like to re-locate do not bother calling dispatch and asking if planning will move you. The dispatchers have now been given strict instructions that they are not allowed to call planning until after 4:30 or 5:00 to request any re-locations. Our situation was a little unusual because our unit had been locked for CDC and they left us sitting for a couple of days. When we asked to have our unit unlocked they did so but would not move us to a freight lane because they are no longer allowed to call planning during the day. Naturally we can move on our own but moving 150 miles just wasn't what we really wanted to do with the high price of fuel. Hmmm. Seems like planning might be a good place to work since no one can call you all day!! Just kidding! ih

You know this BS of calling certain hours is something else, we do not run our trucks between 9 and 5 EDT. I was told that I was to call dispatch at certain hours only and I just had to ask, should I pick up a load and stop because I am not allowed to call dispatch between x and x on any given weekday?

What's going on there?

Not quite sure what you mean by not accepting calls until 4.30 or 5.00? Is that for just a day, or a ongoing program? What do the drivers do while they are waiting? Seems like you would potentially miss a day of opportunity? Having a lock on the truck for several days would be another concern. I would have them remove that. I quess the load would have to pay pretty well if you are spreading the earnings over three days?
Additionally, a 150 mile move would only cost you roughly 50 dollars.
I'm not understanding the logic of sitting for a day on the premise of a 50 dollar cost. Don't take it as bashing, I'm just not following the thought process. Keep in mind that I don't operate with your carrier so take that into consideration.

Yessir Dave, by golly, I agree. I'm not bashing either, but, how many times have we seen people move a couple three hundred miles to do the touristy thing and love it. By gosh tho, don't ask/expect me to use my dime to better myself for this business thingie. Seems to me, you'll have to do the paid moves at night when there isn't a freight volumn. Might be the method in the madness. Dunno

I was always under the impression that planing at the FED was a 9 to 5 type place. We try to ask for a relocation before 4pm to be sure to get them. Most of the time it is not worth the trouble for us. EVERY time we have been given a relocation we got a load from where we were sitting within 5 minutes. MMM a new system for getting loads? Here's the policy, as I understand it.

FedEx Custom Critical provides two layover location suggestions upon arrival at each final delivery on a given run. The suggested layovers are paid at the deadhead rate for that size truck (minus 50 miles) plus the current FSC (for all deadhead to layover miles).

When sending the Proof of Delivery message on the Qualcomm, we select one out of four options. These are layover city #1, layover city #2 Home, or Other. DH and FSC pay are only provided if choice #1 or #2 is selected and we go there until the next dispatch or layover and be available for a full workday. Any driver is free to leave any layover at any time and go to anyother loacation at any time. If, after spending a full workday or more, at any one of the four choices, we may request a PAID relocation to another layover location.

The latest layover relocation policy is not a mystery. The carrier wants us to wait until the end of the business day to request a PAID move for at least a couple of obvious reasons; allow the Planning Department to determine the numbers of trucks needed throughout the country and to minimize the numbers of calls to dispatch for non-dispatch reasons.

I have a few problems with this post that I would like to post; As clearly explained by Terry and Rene, FXCC has a simple and understandable policy for relocation that is not new. I've had planning cooperate each time they were asked. Why would anyone sit for a couple of days and then file a post complaining about having to wait until the end of the working day for a paid move? Lastly, why would someone start their post by explaining they're not whining, unless they're whining and want to try to convince others they're not whining? If someone is unhappy with their carrier, why be unhappy - move to greener pastures.

I would have to agree with Terry on this. Another thing you can do if you have been sitting for over 24 hrs. Call in and ask planning to moved you to another Express Center at the end of the day if you haven't been offered a load. What I mean is if you call in at 12:00 and ask planning "hey if I Don"t have a load by 18:00 will you okay me to move to Atlanta". It's a win/win for everyone. We ask our drivers to wait until 19:00 before they move because FedEx waits until 18:00 to start sending out all the loads that where called in today that pick before 12:00 the next day. The folks in planning have worked with us many times. It's all about learning the system of the company your leased on with. Phil has done a very good job of asking alot of people things over his 4 years in this business and it seems like he has been in the been in this business as long as me now. DaveKc is the man to ask about Panther he has been in this business over 20 plus years and was at one time leased on with FedEx. Ask these guys if you need any help with things.

DTeam... I don't think "move to greener grass" is an answer to the question at hand. She was looking for a reason why FXCC did this.

Have to admit tho... that 150 miles thing sure stumps me. Col and Dave are right on. If you have to spend 50 bux in order to better your situation, then do it. Don't wait for dispatch to put you in the game. You may miss that homerun you've been waiting for.
