Dave ,you know the broker load is going pay more than fecc,i have to give 40% to them, but thats only if the broker gives you the load off the top.How many of these brokers deal from the bottom. Those three years I was with Con-way Now,they hooked me up with many broker loads, after all I was on a $1.05/mile flat rate.oh and never any surcharge, broker didnt pay,ha ha.As I was thinking of getting my own authority again,as I had it before Roberts days,i would always see what load pay would have been if I had went straight to them.In most cases, the broker wanted to deal with multi truck owners, second, only now and then would the load pay enough to concider it more than cheap freight,as an expedite load.Sure i could always LTL the loads,Ive done that plenty back in the early 80's,I use to get 6000 dollars to california hauling nuts and spices off the peers of new york,4 days loading,3 days to california,4 days unloading, and always 80000 lbs +,then produce back to hunts point,no wander I'm so old, lol.BUt the street walkers were a vision, naked under those rain coats, flashing for customers, well thats another thread.A million stories in the naked city.

Some of the big brokers only want to deal with big carriers. Then some big brokers like small carriers, only because they feel they can push them around. There are some small brokerages with big opportunities. Some of those only want to deal with fleets under 15 just because of the solidarity. Any way you put it, none of the big carriers have the market sewn up.

I just delivered a FedEx load to a FedEx warehouse. Probably no one wanted it cause it was 153 miles. That will buy me about 900 miles worth of diesel. Now if I don't burn it up dead heading, It will be a good deal.

But what do I know? I am just a beginner. I am still looking for a crystal ball that tells me where to be.

Help me understand what you are saying here. Are you saying broker freight pays more than Panther and FedEx freight?

Phil,
First part.... what is there to understand, FedEx will broker the load out and make an additional 5% even if it is taken at the higher rate... and it is not all FedEx Freight. I already had a few FedEx CC loads because CC trucks refused to take the load, and it is amazing what they got it for!

But there is a lot more to the story..... hehe....... :)

That is the reality.
Folks that broker freight already know this. It isn't exactly a secret. Many folks will bid that same load and almost every time it will be hauled for a higher rate than the company contractor would be awarded. If drivers of a particular company turn down a 1.50 load for example, it will hit a board at 1.75 to 2.00.
Some just don't get that concept. With regards to NLM loads, that will hit carrier boards as well as GPS/Alliance and a few others. Some are good, and some aren't.
But, the notion that ALL broker freight is "cheap" is the one who doesn't know where to look. That is indicative of the "for sale" and "looking for driver" ads and the ones that will sit for a week waiting on a load.
