First let me thank everyone who responded.
Here is where thins stand. The customer called in the load (after i had left with load #1) requested me by name and truck number. My company sent another truck and said this truck was closer.
When I made an issue of it,the company told me that they knew nothing about it and that the customer had not requested any specific truck. The customer played back (and made me a copy) the telephone conversation of him calling in the load. I am going to make it a point to call a liar a liar to their face and present evidence to back it up.
I informed the shipper that he should have at least called me ane inform me that the load was covered (the shipper is a friend),and I told my company the same thing since they were informed by the customer, and by me via QC that i was dead heading back for the load.
Basically i got screwed out of my time, fuel costs, and leaving a good area to go get a load that was not there.
This customer has and will continue to use me and my truck regularly, but I refuse to make any committment to him unless it comes from my company via the QC.
This was a good lesson learned on my part, and the customer is VERY unhappy with my company for making him out to be a liar, when in fact they were the ones lying to cover their own butts, rather than admit that they did something wrong.
I understand that these things happen and that nobody is perfect, but i was raised to take credit for ALL you do, the good, and the bad. I guess I just expect that from everyone, and thats just not how alot of people do things anymore.
Just FYI: I told that i was not allowed to speak to this customer, and that i was at fault. Keep in mind that this customer is in my home town, the shipping supervisor is a personal friend for many years, and "MY" company has been doing business with this company for over 10 years. These were all facts that the company I'm leased to was unaware of until they tried to strong arm me over this whole issue.
I'll stop here, and once again,Thank You to all who responded the first time.
Merry Christmas,
Happy Holidays,
